It took some explaining to convince my four year old that the joey burger offered on the "Little Joey" menu for the little folks was just a cute way to say hamburger and was not actually kangaroo meat! I'm not sure he ever quite bought that explanation because he ended up opting for the Little steak dinner. A right nice piece of steak for $4.95 I might add! If I could pass for a little joey I would have ordered it for myself since I can never finish all the food any restaurant provides for a meal.
But let's get real. There is NO WAY I am going to pass for a little joey so I ordered the 9oz. center cut sirloin steak and it was prepared to perfection. The waitress who tended our table knew everything you would need to know about a steak. Maybe even more than you really wanted to know! But she made sure we all knew exactly what it meant to order a "medium rare" steak meant(brown on the outside mostly pink on the inside) as opposed to a "medium well"(brown with a strip of pink in the center of the steak).
She was also able to inform us of what the most tender steak on the menu was,the leanest steak on the menu and the spices used on each and every one. Wow. My oldest son commented on the side that she must have attended steak university. Har de Har. He cracks himself up. Regardless,it couldn't be denied that the employees are well schooled about the fare served in their restaurant. Refreshing.
My mother-in-laws steak was not cooked the way she wanted it. The waitress cheerfully returned the steak to the kitchen to be cooked the way she requested and the cook himself brought it back to the table expressing great concern that he had not lived up to his standard of every steak perfectly cooked. Sniff. As compensation she WAS given a full serving of garlic mashed potatoes for free. No charge. Sweet.
She didn't want them and gave them away but it's the thought that counts I guess.
Bottom line, the food was pretty darn good. I don't eat steak very often so when I do I appreciate it being just the way I like it and more along the melt in your mouth category rather than the chew and chew and chew category. Outback cooks up a scrumptious juicy steak that melts in your mouth.
Along with your meal you get dark brown bread and butter. I try not to eat much of the bread and it's a good thing because my husband and our four year old go for it as soon as it hits the table. I would not want to lose a finger or something trying to get a piece.
It was my husband's birthday and of course we let the waitress know that. Isn't it funny how the birthday person always protests? Too bad. We let her know and they brought him a very nice and very LARGE dessert. It was real nice because a whole bunch of employees did not converge on the table clapping their hands and doing the birthday cheer. I think he really appreciated that.
Most restaurants have color crayons and something to color on for the tykes and Outback Steak House is no exception. They offered them to Matthew and that kept him busy for about 2 seconds.
You can get a variety of things to drink here. They have a full bar offering hard liquor, beer and wine. Of course they also have soft drinks, milk and lemonade. We don't drink so I can't tell you how their mixed drinks are but they looked pretty exotic.
The price is right for the food and service at Outback. No complaints about the prices or the service.
When you arrive you are greeted and they open the door for you and you get the same treatment on your way out. It's nice to go to a restaurant and be treated like a guest rather than an intruder every once in a while!
