| subarufiend's Full Review: Outer Banks, NC |
Normally my family vacationed on the far southern shores of North Carolina (Southport/Caswell Beach) and while the beach there is nice and the community is really close knit and cozy, I found myself sick of going to the same place year after year and NOTHING about it changed (which I'm sure for most people wouldn't be a prob). Well my parents finally decided to try a different area and we ended up in Duck, NC which is part of the Outer Banks. In one word "BEAUTIFUL".
I'm 24, when I was there I was 22. I've been going to the beaches of North Carolina since I was about 5 so I've seen a lot of the coast. Now, mind you I'm a young adult. The beaches and community in Southport is PRIME for families with young children who want a low key place to go. As for people with slightly older teenagers, young adults and people in their 30's... the Outer Banks is the way to go. It has a LOT more to do for people in this age range (not to say my parents who are in their lower 50's didnt enjoy themselves, they were just very sentimental about Southport).
In Duck there were TONS of restaurants and little eclectic shops and places to rent stuff like bikes and jet skis.... and the beach is NEVER that far from any rental you choose. We stayed in a house that was RIGHT on the waters edge of the SOUND side, so we walked a little further to get to the opposite side where the beach was, but it wasn't a bad walk in my opinion. To be honest I MUCH rather preferred the house on the Sound side because the SUNSETS were AMAZING!!!!!! Absolutely gorgeous! There is a restaurant called Fishbones Raw Bar & Restaurant (no, everything is NOT raw! :P) which is situated on the same side of the banks as our house was, so it was RIGHT on the water of the sound side..... it was AMAZING to go therre for dinner or a drink as the sun was setting. And right off the back of the restaurant was a little jet ski operation that you could rent jet skis (not the only place that does that mind you, there were others!)......
My family and I also went up to Corolla which is a little more secluded then Duck and is just beginning to be developed.... there's lots of little restaurants and what not up there. There's also the lighthouse that you can explore, which was really interesting and fun......
All in all, i definitely suggest this for younger adults, to people in their 30's..... but like I said, my parents who are in their 50's enjoyed it just as much as I did!
