The Oxo Nylon Slotted Spoon: Very Handy & Safe for Cookware

I don’t use slotted spoons very much, but I wanted to make a set of nylon cookware by adding the Oxo 14” Slotted Spoon to make a set. Some of my other incentives included the fact that I’m a vegetarian (so veggies and other fresh foods are the majority of my meals), and because I have non-stick cookware that I don’t want to ruin.
Packaging & Appearance
The Oxo Slotted Spoon came by itself, with a plastic sticker wrapped around the handle. I bought this with a regular Oxo Spoon, which were both available at Linen’s N Things for $5.99. I was originally looking for a set of nylon utensils, but I couldn’t find them at this store, and I had a coupon. (Bed Bath & Beyond and Linen’s N Things both accept each other’s coupons, and both offer great coupons, like $5 off $15!). I have seen a similar 5-piece set of nylon kitchen items for about $20 at Target and $15 at BJ’s.
The spoon has a hole in the top of the handle for storage. The handle is mad from Oxo’s trademark black rubber, otherwise known as Santoprene. And the rest of the spoon is made from a nylon material, which is one of the main reasons I bought it.
Performance
This Oxo slotted spoon doesn’t get a whole lot of wear, but mostly because I use it as a serving spoon. I don’t use this for pasta, and I don’t use it for dry foods. It mostly gets used for things such as peas and corn, and that’s before seasonings.
Oxo’s website notes that this product will withstand temperatures up to 250 degrees, which makes it pretty durable. However I can’t say I ever do a lot of stirring or heavy duty cooking with this spoon- after all, it is slotted!
The holes in the spoon are just about the right size. They aren’t too large, and I usually don’t have problems with food passing through the holes.
The slotted spoon is also fairly shallow, and also oval (rather than round) in shape. I feel that this makes it easier to get into the corner of pots and pans, and doesn’t present a problem in terms of holding food.
As usual, I love the handles on Oxo’s products. The rubber provides an excellent grip, which is comfortable and sturdy. It is also textured to even further prevent slipping. This is perfect for the kitchen, because even if your hands are wet or whatnot, you won’t have a problem. Plus, the rubber doesn’t retain a lot of heat, making it nicer to use than something with a metal handle.
This spoon has a tiny bit of give to it, but not too much. Meaning it’s not brittle either. It has a nice feel to it, especially with the long handle.
Dishwasher Safe?
This is a dishwasher safe product, although I can never remember that they are. I usually just wash the spoon right after cooking, with my pots or pans, so they are ready to be used right away (because they are so great!). When I first bought Oxo products, the rubber handle always had me thinking that I had something to worry about, but that’s not the case.
Satisfaction Guarantee
Oxo products they are backed by a guarantee. This doesn’t cover damage you inflict on an item, but it will replace or refund things otherwise. I have never had a problem with any of their products, but considering that their items are often more expensive than other brands, it’s nice to know I’m making a sound investment that really can’t go wrong.
Overall
I haven’t tried an Oxo product that I don’t like. Even though I don’t use this spoon too often, it’s nice to have on hand in the kitchen for times when I need it. I am more than happy to spend this much on this slotted spoon because of it’s high quality.
