I hated the peeler I was given in college. It was cheap and difficult to handle. To boot it was getting too dull to really use. So I went to Target to replace it and I saw this. Decided to give it a try. This was my first OXO product and I had no idea what type of quality I was buying, but I needed a peeler badly. I have no regrets about this purchase.

What is it
This is a vegetable peeler with an unusually large handle. The handle allows you to more easily peel vegetable without the discomfort associated with cheap peelers.

First, I have several OXO products and I am very happy with the company. They produce a good product that was really needed. I will always look at their products
OXO is a company the produces good quality products for the average consumer. The products are reasonable prices and practical. Their products are functional products, not display products.
This company has been featured on a couple of shows including one on food network. They take a great deal of pride on their products and how they are manufactured. They realized there was a large gap missing in quality kitchen products. They choose to fill the gap by making products consumers really wanted.
According to their website “OXO's founder, Sam Farber, picked the name OXO because it was the same forwards or backwards, vertical or horizontal, even backwards.

Pronunciation
According to their website, the official pronunciation is “Ox-Oh.”

The handle
The handle is the big selling point of most OXO products. The handle is a typical OXO handle. It is wide and easy to grasp. While using it I have not experienced any uncomfortable feelings. I have a great deal more control with this tool than any other peeler I have used.
The handle is made out of a semi-hard rubber. The rubber gives a little, but not much. The rubber also adds enough friction to keep the product from slipping out of your hands, even when your hands are wet. It is easy to grasp and use. There are vents that give the user an easier time using this product. The vents are mainly for the thumb.
As far as size is concerned it will fit most people. I personally would like a bigger handle, but that is just me. So far OXO has not started to size their products.
The handle on mine is pretty secure, but I can pull the outside layer off. This is a typical problem with XOX products. The handle will slip off on some products. When this occurs the handle will also retain water, especially if you wash it in the dishwasher. Thankfully this handle is more secure than my other models (it does not retain water.)

The peeler
For it’s size, the peeler blade is very long. 2 inches to be exact. This is sufficient for anything I have peeled and have not had a desire for a bigger blade. But if you cut cheese you may want a different style anyways.
The peeler is easy to use and after several years of use it is still not dull. But you can tell that one side of the blade is sharper and cuts better. I will probably have to replace this in 2-3 years. It has certainly lasted longer than I expected.
The blade is made out of stainless steel.

Potato eyer
The tip of the tool has a potato eyer. I really do not like it or use it. The plastic does not dip into the potato well enough.

Is it Dishwasher safe?
According to the website it is. But I think that is the reason why my handle sleeve is coming off.

Is it really easier?
Absolutely, this is the best peeler I have ever used. Even after 3 years it is still sharp. The blade works beautifully.

Why I recommend this product
This makes peeling a lot easier, not the hassle it was before I bought this product. It is easy to grasp. It does not force your hand in an uncomfortable position so you will be able to use it longer than conventional peelers.

Problems with this product
The only real problem I have is the outside of the handle can come off. This is a typical problem with this generation of handles. The handle on this model fits a lot better than the handle on my ice cream scoop and my can opener.

Satisfaction guarantee
They claim to have a satisfaction guarantee. I got an e-mail response and they said I could exchange the product or get the product refunded. I may send my ice cream scoop to them but this product works well enough that I do not feel right exchanging it just for a new blade. I will update accordingly.

Summary:
This is a well engineered peeler that works beautifully. It feels comfortable. It is easy to use. The only problem I have is the handle comes off at times.
I liked this product so much I bought one for my mother-in-law ( I hated using her peeler.) She too has made positive comments about this peeler.
This is by far the best peeler I have ever used.
