Pros: I'm a safer cook now. Makes cooking a joy.
Cons: too small for every cooking job.
The Bottom Line: These tongs saved many fingers from being burned. They're easy to lock and just as easy to open. Great for many jobs around the kitchen.

| Donnie013's Full Review: Oxo 9" Stainless Steel Locking Tongs |
In a way, I guess you could say that Im like a lot of people. I enjoy watching cooking shows. While watching these masters create a culinary feast, I cant help but wonder how they survive all the meals they prepare.
I dont know if my Grandmother was warning me or cursing me but she never failed to say, A really good cook cuts or burns herself at least once every six months. Who knew Id prove her right?!
So far, I dropped a heavy butcher knife in my foot, burned myself with hot chili sauce, burned the skin off my arm while taking a cake out of the oven, etc. The list could go on and one but, in order to cut the risk of future harm, I purchased a few tools that help me along the way.
One of these tools happens to be the 9-inch LOCKING TONGS by OXO.
Why the 9-inch item?
I purchased this particular size for the smaller jobs around the kitchen, like pulling out baked pastries from my toaster-oven. A certain dessert I make, calls for lightly broiled pound cake slices. This 9-inch device is perfect for getting the cake from the inside of the small toaster-over without burning my fingers.
I know, youre saying, Well, gee, any tongs would do that! Yes, youre right; any tongs would. But NOT all tongs have that locking device that makes your job a whole lot easier.
LOCKING DEVICE?
The locking device is nothing more than a small pull-tab at the top of the tongs. Oh, that pull-tab also doubles for a hole should you prefer to hang your tongs on a hook. Anyway, getting back to the locking device: when you find the correct width opening you need for whatever job youre doing, you dont need to constantly open a hard-to-squeeze tool. OXO created a tool that you can adjust to whatever width opening you need..
For instance, when Im taking my pound cake slices from under the broiler, I dont need tongs that open 6 or more inches. I just set the LOCKING DEVICE to just a bit more than the cake and voila! The size stays put until I change it! No more fighting the tongs from wide mouth to small mouth after all, if I wanted to fight a large mouth, Id go fishing for bass!
The locking device is operated by a push-pull method. What I mean is that when you want to lock the jaws in place, hold them to your desired width and pull the tab out. To open, just push it in.
Oh
. this does come in handy for storing. You certainly dont want huge, open tongs in your drawer in which everything else can get caught!
While this sounds like a good idea to most people, youre probably now wondering if these things can stand the heat. Yes, they can AND without burning your hands. OXO designed these tongs with heat-resistant, sure-grip pads that are placed toward the top of the tongs right where youd naturally hold them.
These little soft, rubberized grips are made in such a way that, in addition to keeping heat from your hands, they wont allow the tongs to slip from them, either. The comfortable thumb rest in these grips make them much easier to hold and maneuver.
What else does OXO have in store with this wonderful device? How about the fact that these tongs are made from solid brushed stainless steel? Thats right. They wont rust ever! Theyre light in weight so theres no fumbling around hot food.
While this small size might not be perfect for everything you cook, I find it is perfect for those small jobs where a small tool comes in handy.
These tongs are dishwasher safe so there is no need to figure out how to wash them. Just put them in the dishwasher with the rest of your soiled dishes and they come out sparkling clean just like new!
As my dad (the carpenter) used to say, To do the job right, you need the right tool and for many of the things I do in the kitchen, the OXO 9-INCH LOCKING TONGS are not just right theyre perfect!
