Forget About Tediously Sawing at Pizzas with Oxo's Pizza Wheel

The Bottom Line: Oxo products are amazingly well-designed, for comfort and functionality. The Pizza Wheel is a wonderful product, and makes for a great kitchen tool.

Adding to my collection of Oxo products, I decided to go with a pizza cutter.
I’m not a huge “pizza person”, but I do actually prefer home-made pizza’s or store-bought over the traditional New York style pizza. Basically, I like pizzas with puffy dough, almost a Sicilian type. Therefore, a pizza cutter comes in handy for me when we make pizza at home or when we get those frozen brands at the grocery store. Personally, I don’t consider puffy dough pizzas to be “real” pizza, but it’s what I like!
Functionality
The handle of the pizza cutter is a black material, SantopreneŽ (a processed rubber). This rubbery handle is such a nice trademark of Oxo products, and definitely attracts me to buying these kitchen tools. The rubbery surface makes for a wonderful grip, even if your hands are wet, etc.
The blade of the wheel is nice and sharp. Not too sharp to touch, but it’s a nice crisp blade that has no problem cutting through dough. No need to worry, however, because there’s a thumb guard that prevents you from experiencing the potential of that sharp blade!
I have used the Oxo Pizza Wheel for cutting up pizza to making bread sticks and so on. It is definitely a multi-use product, and I’ve used it on a range of dough products and more.
The 4” blade is large enough to accommodate a range of pizzas, including the puffy, doughy types that I prefer. Not just a thick pizza, but large quantities of toppings as well.
Another advantage over other pizza cutters is that the blade is also not in a perfect line with the handle. It is a little bit lower, so that you can get better leverage as well as not having to run your knuckles across the pizza while cutting slices.
Comfort
This Oxo Pizza Wheel is extremely comfortable and easy to use. When cutting pizza, there’s usually a fair amount of effort required to actually cut through the dough, and this product makes it so much more simple.
My favorite feature of this pizza wheel is the combination of the rubber handle and the thumb rest. This way, my hand does not risks slipping off the handle (and slicing my fingers open), both because of the grip and the thumb rest. This really allows you to sink your effort into cutting pizza slices.
The thumb rest is referred to as a thumb guard on Oxo’s website. I can see where you might hold this tool without even resting your thumb on the guard, but I suppose it’s however it is most comfortable. The guard does have a concave shape, which sort of keeps your thumb centered on it, with a lessened risk of slipping.
Not only is the handle rubberized, but it is also textured toward the wheel to allow for better finger grip.
Therefore, the Oxo Pizza Wheel make cutting up pizza both safer and easier.
Storage
The handle of the pizza cutter has a hole in the top. I don’t personally hang up my Oxo products, but it’s a nice feature in case you want to do so. I usually just keep my kitchen tools in a drawer, and Oxo tools seem to fare well in there.
Durability
As usual, I always feel like I need to double-check as to if these products are dishwasher safe (they are!). This makes the Oxo Pizza Wheel a very easily maintained product. I usually wash them by hand because I like to scrub off the dried cheese as soon as possible, but its nice to just know that this product could withstand a wash in the dishwasher.
The blade is stainless steel, which I feel is the only way to go. The thumb guard is die cast zinc.
I have never had any problems with Oxo products and wear and tear. They seem extremely durable, and I don’t worry about them breaking down. I expect that these will last a long time.
Price & Where to Find
This product is listed as $10.00 on Oxo’s website. I am pretty sure I got it around the same amount, at Linen’s N Things. I see Oxo products in a range of stores, from cooking stores to other types of home product stores.
I have no problem spending this much on a product like this, because I know it works well and will also last a long time. Rather than dealing with kitchen tools that break or degrade, I know that I can count on Oxo.
Overall
I have been thrilled with each Oxo product that I try. I am very happy to know that these kitchen tools are so reliable and make cooking a pleasurable experience, not a chore. Other people have tried my Oxo products, and have really liked them as well. Not only am I glad to have other people discovering that these products are so great, I don’t have to worry that they’ll break or get ruined. I hope to build a collection of Oxo tools for my kitchen.
