Pros: clip has wide opening, strong grip that is nonslip, has a hole for hanging
Cons: I have only seen these clips in white
This household loves bag clips. Big, small, odd shapes, cute designs ... there is a drawer full of them. Yet here I am with the Oxo Good Grips Bag Clips Model # 1060608. So what would possess me to buy yet another set of bag clips?
These bag clips are from the Oxo Good Grips line. That means they have soft grip handles and also a soft grip strip running along the inside of both halves of the clip. The clip measures 5 1/2" wide x 3 3/8" high. Two come attached to a cardboard blistercard. Each clip is white, and the rubberized soft grip is black.
Each clip has a handle that when pinched opens the mouth of the clip. The handle has a hole in it. The rubberized area is a half-inch wide circle inset around the hole. That way when you grab the handle to open the clip, your fingers dont slip.
When the mouth of the clip is open, you can see two long 3/8" wide strips of rubberized soft grip material along the bottom inside of the clip. This rubberized strip prevents the clip from slipping on the bag.
I couldnt resist buying these Oxo soft grip bag clips because they are nonslip. My fingers stay put on the handle. I own several styles of clip where my fingers slide right off the handle as Im opening the clip. That usually results with me muttering under my breath as the clip falls to the floor.
The way the Oxo clips are designed, it is very easy to open the clip. The clip mouth is wide, too, opening 1 1/2". I especially like the strip of rubberized material along the inside of the clip. These clips grasp an open bag and keep the bag closed. I dont have to worry about the clips falling off the bag ... or accidentally having the bag tip over and the clip springing free.
These clips are strong, too! I took a full unopened 13 3/4" ounce bag of waved potato chips and clipped an Oxo Good Grips bag clip to the top edge of the bag. Then I lifted the clip by one side of the handle. The bag stayed firmly grasped in the clips mouth. The bag did not shift. It did not drop. The clip held tight until I released it.
The back of the blistercard offers these suggested uses for the clips: snack bags, frozen food, flour, sugar, cereal, notepads, holding books open. I can understand using this clip for keeping snack bags closed (which is what I use the clips for), and even holding some books open (depending upon the book). However, I dont know about you ... but I keep my frozen foods in plastic containers or Ziploc bags. My flour and sugar are in canisters. The cereal is in boxes, or a plastic container. And Im not sure about using these clips for notepads.
One thing missing on these clips is a magnet. If the clip had a strong magnet on the back, then I would say it would be great on a refrigerator holding a notepad or a stack of take-out menus. I suppose one could hang the clip from a nail or hook, and then use the clip to hold a notepad.
An additional note is that the white clip looks really sharp with the black rubberized material around the hole and on the inside of the clip edges. Its stylish.
I bought these Good Grip Bag Clips at Linen n Things for $4.99 (two come attached to the cardboard packaging). Linen n Things often prints a 20% off coupon in their flyer that appears in the Sunday newspaper. Might as well save some money!
These two Oxo Good Grips Bag Clips keep my Sunchip and potato chip bags tightly closed. I have no trouble with the clips slipping or springing open at the wrong moment. These clips are reliable and do a great job.
