| Javelina's Full Review: Oxo Good Grips Corn Holders 28381 |
I have always had corn holders in my utensil drawer. Those old, traditional ones that are little yellow plastic corns. I was therefore very excited when I got a set of Oxo corn holders in my wishing well at my bridal shower.
I have seen these corn holders at Linens N Things and Bed Bath & Beyond, and they run around $6.00 for a set of 8. Both of these stores send out 20% off coupons (or $5 of $15) if you are on their mailing list, and they also accept competitors coupons. This can be a great incentive for stocking up on Oxo products and other kitchen/home supplies!
Oxo Corn Holders
1" x 4" x 7"
Weight: 6 oz.
The corn holders have a rubbery black covering - Santoprene rubber - and have either yellow or green plastic (mine are yellow) peeking through between the handle and the two spikes.
The pins are stainless steel, and the holders are dishwasher safe.
My Thoughts & Experiences
Corn holders arent the most high tech in the kitchen department, but it really seems like Oxo designed them the best way possible.
The rubbery surface the Oxo trademark is really great to have, especially when eating corn often involves being outdoors and having greasy (buttery) fingers. The rubber coating makes the corn holders more grippy, and help to prevent slipping.
The handles also seem a little fatter than most corn holders, which I find makes them easier to hold. No more trying to hold on to a slippery piece of hard plastic that is about the width of a pen. The Oxo corn holders arent just non-slip, but also have a more comfortable size and shape to them, compared to what I usually use.
Oxo also describes the plastic part (the yellow or green plastic that peeks through between the rubber and the pin) as a "butter dam". This is supposed to help prevent butter from making its way on to your fingers, and I would have to agree. The base of the handles sticks out and is wide wider than most that I see, especially your traditional corn holders and helps to prevent butter from running over the lip of the holders.
I am always happy when products are dishwasher safe. Looking at Oxos products, I am always surprised that the rubber is all right to wash. Items as small as these, I usually dont put in the dishwasher, but it does add a convenience factor, should I decide that I dont want to wash them by hand.
The stainless steel pins are long, sharp, and durable. I would say the pins are a little longer than most, a little sharper than most, and probably more durable!
Satisfaction Guarantee
Oxo offers a guarantee, so if you are not satisfied with any of their products, they will do their best to accommodate you. Whenever I think of this, I am reminded of Pippadaisys review of the Oxo Garlic Press - her press broke, so she took a digital picture, and they sent her a new one, free of charge! Very cool!
Overall Thoughts
I cant think of anything not to like about these Oxo corn holders. They are attractive, comfortable, highly functional, and durable. This is a great design, and the best I have seen for corn holders.
