This scoop is certainly wonderful to have on hand and filling up my cupcake pan is a much easier task. I wish I had this Oxo Good Grips Medium Cookie Scoop a long time ago!

I use the medium scoop mostly for scooping batter into cupcake liners or a cupcake pan. I make a lot of corn muffins, mini quiche muffins and cupcakes and one heaping scoop goes into a cupcake liner perfectly. Sometimes it's 2 scoops period that fill one up. A small OXO Good Grips Cookie Scoop would be great for meatballs and melons. The medium-sized one is good for those cupcakes, but also for cookies. You scoop the batter from the bowl out onto the cookie sheet. They make a perfectly round and decent-sized cookie. You can flatten the back of the cookie out with the back of the scoop, or baking will just flatten them naturally. The contraption inside makes the batter come out without you having to use your finger to scrape it, so there's no more frustration (for contraption I mean release mechanism). A large scoop could be used for scooping ice cream, and pancake batter. Although this medium scoop can do pancake batter as well, but for a decent-sized pancake you will need to use 2 scoops per pancake at least, sometimes 3. A medium scoop is 1 and 1/2 tablespoons and you can also "heap" the scoop for more batter per scoop as well.

How you use this product is you just scoop your batter and then bring it to the pan you're using and then squeeze the grips. OXO is known for having rubber, soft grips on their kitchen utensils and tools so your hands don't get sore or hurt and so the tool won't slip out of your hand while using it. You squeeze them together with your hand and then a scraper mechanism scrapes the inside of the scoop for you, easily releasing the batter. There is little to none batter left in the scoop after you have squeezed the handles together.     

You can buy the medium scoop on Amazon for around $13, I think I got mine at Bed Bath and Beyond for around $11 and with a coupon. It's worth it as a fun kitchen gadget and I sure hope that it lasts a long, long time. It is dishwasher safe and I have put it in there, but the springs are what I worry about rusting. I also worry that with long-time use of squeezing it together with the springs, it will malfunction eventually, but for 11$ if it lasts 3 years, I'll get my money's worth. The scoop is stainless steel and rubber.

One downside, if you can even call it a downside is that it's a little bulkier to store in my kitchen than other tools or utensils. It's not heavy to hold, though. It is not as bulky as I am making it sound, though, I guess I just have a small kitchen with limited space.  

Overall, this has been a great product and I'm glad I chose this particular brand (other brands also sell these same scoops, but this one is affordable in comparison and with the "grips" portion of it added). I like this so much that I want the small scoop and large one as well for other jobs around my kitchen.
