When I am cooking something using a nonstick pan (which I have and use quite a few), I need a non-metal spatula to flip the item I am cooking. Although I have a plastic spatula, it does not pick up items like fish or sausages well and is rather flimsy.
I bought OXO Good Grips Locking Tongs with nylon heads and I am extremely pleased with their performance. The tongs are made of metal with nylon heads, knob that you pull to lock them in closed position and the sides where you squeeze. Whereas the areas where nylon/plastic is needed feature it, the construction of the utensil is robust (metal), the spring that opens the tongs has the right effort (not too light, not too heavy).
The lock works well and also serves as something you can use to hang the tongs (the locking mechanisms handle has a hole). I wish the hole was slightly larger to accommodate hooks that I have in my kitchen.
The nylon heads do not scratch my Calphalon Commercial Nonstick pans and have good grip to let me flip and arrange sausages, blintzes, fish and other items with good precision and without breaking semi-fragile items (e.g. salmon). And the length of the utensil lets my reach pretty far without exposing my hand to the heat more than I have to.
The tongs are dishwasher-safe and I routinely place them in dishwasher with no problems. One caveat: if you use high heat, you have to use non-nonstick cookware (Teflon does not like high heat) and metal utensils, otherwise the nylon can soften or melt.
Bottom Line
Overall, I am very happy with this product. I highly recommend it if you use non-stick cookware. For higher temperatures, OXO Good Grips tongs are available with metal heads.
