Sharp Blades on These Oxo Professional Steak Knives!

  • Ease of Cleaning:
Pros:no-stain stainless steel blades (not serrated), sharp, non-slip rubberized handle
Cons:not exactly the same as the other knives in the Professional series
The Bottom Line: The non-slip handle makes these steak knives a keeper for this family. However, there are a few other considerations worth noting.

The Oxo Professional Steak Knives are meant as a compliment to the rest of the Oxo Professional knives. There are a few differences, though, between these steak knives and the other knives in the series.

Description

These steak knives measure 9 1/8" long. The “no stain” stainless steel blade is 4 1/2" long. A black rubberized grip offers a non-slip hold.

So how do these knives differ from the other blades in the Professional series?

1. The rubberized handle looks and feels different from the other knives. It looks like a less expensive rubber. Don’t get me wrong, these steak knives are great ... but they are not constructed like the rest of the professional series knives.

2. The other knives have a stainless steel piece that unites the blade to the handle. The steak knives, instead, have a rubberized piece that connects the blade to the handle.

3. The other Professional series knives have a silver metal oval disk imprinted with the Oxo name at the end of each knife handle. The steak knives only have a rubber imprint of the oval with the Oxo name.

My Experiences

When I first used these steak knives, I immediately noticed the thin blade. This is the thinnest blade I’ve seen on a steak knife (and I’ve used quite a few sets in the past). The blade actually flexed at the end when I cut meat.

However, after that first initial surprise of the thin blade ... I have hardly noticed it. Others who have used the steak knives noticed the thin blade said it doesn’t bother them.

A good feature of the thin blade is that it cuts a narrow, clean line. I have used these steak knives to cut meat, boiled potatoes and even butter. They do an excellent job. No hacking at meat with these knives.

Besides having the rubberized non-slip handles ... the handles also stay balanced on a plate edge. Usually when I place a knife across a plate, the knife slips off. These Oxo knives stay in place. I consider this a great safety feature.

I can also lay this knife on a flat surface and not have the blade touch the surface. The knife stays balanced on the long side of the handle, which keeps the blade off the table.

The stainless steel blades, true to their name, have not stained. These knives are to be hand washed and immediately dried. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid, and have not had a problem with their care.

Purchasing

A set of four steak knives retails for $19.99. Six steak knives come with the 14-piece knife set.

Summary

My only suggestion to Oxo is that they construct the steak knives like the rest of the Professional series. Other than that, these knives have worked great. I’m happy to use them.

I hope you found this review useful.
