OXO 11 Inch Whisk: Comfort and control, all in one.

Written: Nov 04 '06
Pros:Great control, comfortable handle, dishwasher safe.
Cons:Doesn’t have a cleaning cycle button.
The Bottom Line: A great all-purpose whisk.

The first time I used this I knew I made a good purchase. Not only with the strong grip but I felt in control of the whisk wires. Other whisks I have been using feel flimsy and not very effective, but this obeyed my commands like it was an extension of my hand. Those other whisks had a very loose rubbery feel to them when I used them, it felt as if I was mixing up ingredients with a piece of Jell-O in my hand. But I continued using them because I didn’t know any better. Now I do. When I use this whisk it feels more like I am using a strong fork than a flimsy whisk. I feel that I have more control and do a better job of fluffing and mixing my sauces and coatings.

The advantage of a hand whisk versus a mechanical mixer is the amount of control you have over the finished product. This whisk is a fairly standard whisk and it is more of a multipurpose whisk. For those that like to make fluffy things may want to get a balloon whisk in addition to this but for general mixing this is perfect.

The metal wires are not a solid piece. Instead they are unconnected loops. This means that you can mix more product at once due to the increased surface area that is created. The distance between the inner loop and the outer loop is about 1 inch. The problem with this is that if you are mixing something small, or shallow, then you will not have as much control as you would have with a whisk that has the metal loops connected or all curving at the very end of the tool. This was my wife’s complaint when she first used it.

The handle is made out of the same rubber that my other OXO tools are made of. It is in a long teardrop shape and is very easy to grasp. It doesn’t slip out of a wet hand. It has a great deal of friction/resistance. The grip is also large enough for individuals with larger hands.

The whisk is made out of stainless steel metal so I don’t use it on Teflon non-stick surfaces.

I don’t have any concerns about the durability. There is nothing that I feel will fall apart or wear out. It looks very much like the first day I used it.

It is easy to clean. All you need to do is run it under hot water and a sponge. But I usually just throw it in the dishwasher and have not had any problems with doing that.
