The Bottom Line: This knife is durable and extends the life of lettuce. It is a great design and a great concept, not to be compared to many of the cheap lettuce knives.

I am a vegetarian, and I have been most of my life. Therefore, we always have veggies in our fridge. When we were putting together our wedding registry at Linen’s N Things, I saw this Oxo Lettuce Knife and just had to add it!
This knife costs around $4.99. I buy most of my Oxo items at Linen’s N Things, and sometimes at Bed Bath & Beyond. These two stores accept competitor’s coupons (in other words, each other’s), meaning that the $5 off $15 or 20% coupons I get in the mail really come in handy. (BB&B has also accepted their own expired coupons).
Oxo Lettuce Knife
This knife measures 13" x 2" x 1”, which is fairly sizable, but only weighs 4 oz. It is made from nylon, and has a rubber handle with the Oxo logo imprinted on it. The edge of the knife is serrated to facilitate cutting through lettuce.
This knife is dishwasher safe, despite the rubber handle.
Oxo has a satisfaction guarantee, so if you are unhappy with one of their items or it breaks (within reasonable limits), you can get a refund or replacement.
My Thoughts & Experiences
When we first saw this item (actually, quite a long time ago), I was intrigued at the thought that this knife will minimize browning as compared to a regular knife (stainless steel).
As with all Oxo brand products, I love the rubbery handle. My hands can be wet or whatnot, and I can still maintain a grip on the knife. The handle is large and feels nice and solid.
The edge of the knife is not sharp enough to cut through too much else besides lettuce, and you would not likely cut yourself. However, it is certainly sufficient to cut through a head of lettuce. This is a pretty long knife and makes it easy to chop up lettuce easily. Also, the cutting edge of the knife is perfectly flat, which I think helps in cutting.
I really like that this item is dishwasher safe. Even so, I usually just give it a rinse or a quick cleaning, since a) lettuce doesn’t really dirty the knife, and b) my Oxo products are so valuable that I like to have them ready for use at all times.
I use this knife for a variety of purposes. I can easily use this to cut right through a head of lettuce. I can use that shredded lettuce for things like salads, tacos, taco salad, wraps, and more. As I mentioned, I am a vegetarian, so things like this that make vegetable preparation easier make my life easier. I do notice that the lettuce does not brown and I can extend the use of the lettuce. Normally, I would just throw out whatever is left over, but now I can save them as leftovers for a day.
An added benefit of the nylon knife is that it does not contribute to the cut marks in my cutting boards. I don’t need a heavy duty knife to cut up lettuce, romaine, etc., so it also is not worth slicing up my cutting boards. Also, because it is not too sharp, I can recklessly hack away at a head of lettuce over a colander without losing a finger!
I have seen a few other brands of lettuce knives and many look really cheap (like the “As Seen on TV” knives and many others). I also have an affinity for Zyliss items, but even their knife lacks the rubber handle. This type if product is not manufactured by many brands, and it really looks like Oxo is in the lead with this one.
Overall
I generally love my Oxo kitchen tools, and this is definitely one of them. This is a very specialized item, so I can only use it for lettuce, which is fine with me. The Oxo Lettuce Knife is well-designed, high quality, and adds to the life of lettuce.
