It looks like LED technology has caught up to incandescent light output, at least for some lights. This is one of the best upgrades for people who have Surefire flashlights that use P60, P61, P90, and P91 type lamps/bulbs. The lamps just mentioned typically have run times (battery drain) measured in minutes rather that multiple hours. And the short lifespan of these traditional incandescent lamps requires the whole lamp be replaced every so often, (depending on usage.) So this LED is a good investment since it will pay for its self over time in just the cost of batteries and burned out lamps.
For comparison, I replaced one of my P60 lamps, which retail for $17, with the P60L LED, which retails for $39. The P60 has a brightness of 65 lumen compared to the P60Ls 80 lumen. The P60 has a runtime listed as 60 minutes (depending on the flashlight) compared to the runtime of 12 hours on the P60L LED. The other lamps produce the following:
P61 120 lumen for 20 minutes P90 105 lumen for 60 minutes P91 200 Lumen for 20 minutes
Both the P60 and P61 use flashlights that run off of 2 CR123A lithium batteries while the P90/91 are used on flashlights that run off of 3 CR123A batteries.
So basically if you don't need light output over 80 lumen this is an obvious choice. I personally find anything brighter than 80 lumen indoors is uncomfortable, and even 80 can be a little too bright at times.
The lamp is an LED surrounded by a reflector mounted to a contact spring and comes in a plastic bag. It drops into the bezel of the flashlight, just like the original lamps. Many of the Surefire flashlights that used the above lamps, can now be purchased with the P60L in lieu of the original incandescent lamps. I suspect the P60 lamps may go away all together and as the LED technology continues to improve the other incandescents may follow suit sometime.
Fits the following Surefire flashlights, 6P, 9P, G2, G3, G2Z, C2, C3, Z2, Z3, and D3.
The P60L lifespan is listed by Surefire as lasting thousands of hours and the LEDs typically don't break like filament incandescent bulbs.
