| paytonbyrd's Full Review: PNY Verto GeForce2 MX400, (64 MB) AGP Video Card |
I bought my PNY GeForce2 MX400 about 8 months ago for playing Dark Age of Camelot on Windows XP. At the time nVidia had a lock on the Windows XP market because ATI's drivers were buggy. Happily, the nVidia detonator drivers for XP are fabulously fast and stable, a feat that took ATI a while to accomplish.
This card has served me well. There's not a single game in my collection that won't work on it that is DirectX compliant. Since I only have a 17" monitor I rarely play games over 1024x768 resolution and at that size even Neverwinter Nights shows no speed degradation.
The real issue for me is that I paid $109 for the card after a $20 rebate and now that's what you can buy a GeForce 4 TI 4200 for, which is faster, includes DX 8.1 features, and will do antialiasing without bringing the system to a crawl.
The GF4 wasn't around when I bought this card. At the time GF3 was still in the $300 range, so I feel I got a very good deal. The GF2 is going to hang around a long time like the TNT2 did, so don't feel bad if you catch one of these on a really good deal.
