| dsanchez2002's Full Review: PNY Verto® GeForce®4 Ti 4400, (128 MB) A... |
Let me start by saying that I own a home PC solely to play games, video capture, surfing the internet and checking mail. For this reason I am a prime target in the battle for video card superiority. I started buying high end video cards for games back when the 4mb Matrox Mystic and Voodoo were king. Since then I've owned just about every ATI, Voodoo, NVIDIA and Matrox card that has been developed for gaming.
Back in 1996, I got a hold of a STB Velocity 128 4mb PCI card with a little know chip from a company call NVIDIA. Voodoo was reigning king, and currently the only card capable in the retail market of supporting opengl. Along with this NVIDIA card was the promise of drivers that would allow support for opengl. When the drivers finally game, I fired up Quake II and behold opengl. It was not as pretty as Voodoo, but you only needed one video card and it was fast. I told my other gaming partners what I was using to run games and they looked at me like I was smoking crack. How dare I use anything other than Voodoo! I proceeded to tell them that NVIDIA was the future and unless Voodoo's technology changes they will one day take a fall.
Needless to say, that's all history and now NVIDIA’s watching it's back. With competitors like ATI and Matrox breathing down their necks, NVIDIA has taken bold steps to stay one step ahead by offering a complete line of cards to support every market. The new geforce4 lineup is no different, with better technology, drivers and support than it's predecessors.
Without going into all the tech specification around what makes geforce4 so great, I'd like to point out a card and company where value and performance are not compromised. The PNY geforce4 Ti4400 is what I consider the best value in the geforce4 lineup from any major manufacturer. It's on average $100 cheaper than the Ti4600, however, there is not much of a performance hit. Of all the Ti4 cards manufactured, PNY is the cheapest and offers the most bang for buck. Sure, you may get software and slightly better heat sinks with others, but do the cost analysis and PNY makes the most since. With video cards having a short shelf life these day, why bother with gimmicks and extras you may never use.
