SHOSHOSHO's Full Review: PNY Verto GeForce4 Ti 4600, (128 MB) AGP Video Car...
This review may not be as in-depth as would be expected by the Techno oriented people out there but i'll do my best. This card was actually included with an Alienware P4 2.2 Ghz. that I purchased earlier this year. I actually had to wait for the computer because this card was in such demand when I bought it. Here's a bit of a hands on review of my experience with the Ti4600.
Great Performance
The only program that I use that will fully utilize the performance of this card is Microsoft Flight Simulator and Combat Flight Simulator. My old Computer was a Dell P3 1.0 ghz. with an Nvidia GeForce 256. The performance was ok but when I turned up all the graphics settings the graphics became quit jittery and choppy. The frame rate was between 5-20 fps. I eagerly anticipated the new computer with the Ti4600 as I was told that the 4600 would make a world of difference. AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The graphics were displayed flawlessly with all the resolutions max'd. I could not beleive the ground detail in both CFS and MFS 2002. What really amazed me is that, with all the grahics settings max'd, there was never any choppy or jittery grahics. There was never any hesitation what so ever. Now although my new computer has more memory and a faster processor than the old, I do beleive that the graphics card made all the difference. Anyone familiar with FS 2002 knows that this program is a memory and graphics hog, using all the processing and graphics power you can throw at it. The detail and frame rate was unbeleivable. The program ran at around 20-30 fps but there is never any hesitiation. The big problem I ran into with old computer was the dealy that would occur when making a turn for instance. On a landing for instance, when making minor adjustments, the program would freeze up for a second or two. This could become frustrating at times. Never happens with the new card.
Summary
Keep in mind that my experiences involve two different computers. My new computer is a monster (see my review for the Alienware). I do beleive though that the Ti4600 plays a big part in the performance. I have also heard that the Ti4200 and 4400 are not the best choice if looking for smoking graphics. I was told that those cards are old cards with new names. For the money the Ti4600 was a great addition to an already great computer. And for a couple hundred bucks more its well worth the added performance, especially if you are purchasing a performance computer. Definitely worth the hundred or so more dollars than the 4200 or 4400. As for any other cards such as ATI, never used em so cant comment.
