Pros: Sheer but lasting color.
Cons: Made in China.
Flying blind without the aid of recommendations, beauty mag features, or the coveted product from my sister or friend's beauty bag of tricks, I discovered this great little find all by myself while browsing around ulta.com! I'm happy to share my positive feedback.
Packaged in an aqua tube detailed with a magenta floral pattern, this petite sized POP Lip Lust immediately caught my attention. Ulta.com didn't have too much detailed information so I checked out the popbeauty.com website which convinced me this product was more than just a pretty face. Why?
Snipped from Pop Beauty's website:
...silky smooth, balmy, tinted, lip-loving stick to sweep over our dry lips to instantly turn them into smooth kissable, sweet tasting baby lips
...super hydrating, in bright but sheer POP colors
...Nourishing vitamin E and lip plumping ingredients.
Pop Beauty had me at balmy, and tinted! Lip Lust is available in only 4 options (a red, a neutral, a bright, and a pastel) which I kind of like with easy to remember names. Sometimes I find that too many shades can be overwhelming. Here they are:
NO.1 Naughty Red
NO.2 Flirty Fuchsia
NO.3 Dewy Toffee
NO.4 Petal Pink
I chose Flirty Fuchsia, because I have been looking for a wearable shade of fuchsia. Wearable Fuschia?? Does that sound like an oxymoron? I can understand why anyone might be apprehensive about fuschia, but this vibrant and sheer shade looks beautiful and I'm going to be bold enough to state I believe it would work well on all skin tones.
My Flirty Fuschia Lip Lust arrived protected in a cardboard box designed exactly like the lipstick tube. Traditional tube of lipstick, plastic, product twists up. I like the petite size, about 2 1/4 inches long, the width of a dime, and .13 ounces of product. I wish all makeup was packaged in smaller sizes! I have probably thrown away as much makeup as I've used, long before the product is depleted, because I'm bored with it, or it's past a reasonable shelf life (bacteria, ewww).
As usual, I had a compulsion to sniff the lipstick, and was rewarded with the memory of playing with my grandma's makeup. It has an old fashioned makeupy smell, or it might be a Ponds creamy smell, or something similar to baby powder. It certainly triggered positive feelings, and I although I can't quite articulate what it is, I would describe the scent as appealing.
Twisted up a bit of product and loved the shade. It also looked dewy, and creamy, and I proceeded to give it a go. Velvety smooth application, almost neutral but pleasant taste, bright tint, but perfectly sheer. The velvety smooth finish looks fresh with just a hint of glossiness.
The Lip Lust seemed to just melt into my lips and felt very moisturizing. The color clings without stick or slick, and is long lasting. Even if I swipe it off with a tissue, a hint of tint remains.
On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this a 7 for moisturizing properties. It's good as long as it's there, but not as good as Nivea Lip Care which is a 10 and really seems to improve the condition of my lips.
POP Beauty is a reasonable $13.00 per tube and I will restock this shade when it's gone. I will definitely try another shade too.
If you prefer a more natural but finished lip, give this a try!
I couldn't find a list of ingredients online (and it I threw away the outer box which lists them), but this lipstick doesn't contain too many ingredients but does include a lot of wax: bees, Carnuba, Candelila, parabens, alcohols, jojoba, and castor oil. Not necessarily in that order. Despite the list of waxes, it doesn't feel or wear waxy!
