PQI MicroSD Card with SD Adapter - 8GB - Quality Flash Memory, good price.
Written: Oct 06 '09
Product Rating:
Pros: Quality SD adapter, fine transfer rate and compatibility, sturdy packaging.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: Spend a dollar or two for a name brand like PQI. Also, if you're considering an SD card at all, might as well go micro (with SD adapter).

These days, it seems a lot of gizmos use flash memory to improve their functionality and performance. Digital cameras, cell phones, video game devices and even computers themselves utilize SD cards. Everything gets smaller when it comes to tech, so it made sense that the SD card would be turned into the Micro SD card, a tiny piece of memory that can fit into the tiniest personal electronics.
I have no less than 6 such items in my house, and I am not really a technophile. Your choices for memory are pretty wide these days, as there are a few major players and a lot of generics - And if you go to newegg.com or whatnot, you'll have a lot of choices at pretty similar prices.
In my experience with these and similar products, I say it's usually worth it to go the extra dollar or two for one of the bigger name brands - In the case of memory, you're looking at say Kingston, PQI, and Sandisk, though there are other choices as well.
Is there a difference between the big guns? Probably not much of one - Certainly not one you average user will notice. Quality and reliability become your primary gauges for selection.
PQI is a quality noted brand - their cards come with a lifetime warranty, and the standard SD adapter included is high quality and easy to access. One difference I found with this card and similar brands is the Micro slot is to the side instead of the middle of the card, making it a little easier for me to get it in and out. Again, probably something that won't be a big factor for most.
Pricing on these things is constantly changing, and as I write this, the price will probably be half or less in 6 months to a year. I paid about $15 for my card which I thought was a great price (Note - this review is listed under the 4gb category, as 8gb isn't available - though I have an 8gb card, your experience should be similar)
So, is there any specific reason to go with PQI? Not really. You could go with any of the big guns and be fine. However, I will suggest going with a name brand - and if you're going to buy an SD card, you might as well go for the micro - as your electronics in the future will probably utilize it.
This is as good a choice as your other name brands.
