Pros:Super taste. Affordable. High protein content.
Cons:Does the 40/30/30 principle work?
The Bottom Line: PR Bars are yummo! Judge for yourself whether they fit into your diet/fitness program.
The PR Bar is one of countless health bars available to the diet and fitness conscious hordes. However, itís a bar with a difference, and has to be analyzed in a certain context - specifically as a part of PR Nutritionís overall diet and fitness program. Therefore to understand the bar, we need to take a quick look at the overall PR Nutrition outlook.

PR Nutrition and their marketed program focuses on weight loss and an increase in lean muscle mass. Thatís straight forward. However, the PR approach is different. Unlike most diet and fitness programs, PR are all for fat content in a diet.
The golden rule for the PR approach to nutrition is:
Sounds unusual to say the least, and not the common approach to weight loss or optimum nutrition. So, whatís the story?
PR Nutrition arenít prone to giving away their secrets for free. The secret behind their unorthodox approach will be revealed in full when you sign up for a personalized fitness program with them. HoweverÖ
Having been in the nutrition field for many years, I still retain friendships with people Ďin the knowí. PRís 40/30/30 philosophy is based on the bodyís need for certain ratios of food in order to release the hormones that spark the utlization of fat stores (that big butt) as an energy source. In English, PR claim that you need the 40/30/30 ratio in order to burn fat.
Iím not going to debate the science of it. All Iíd like to say about 40/30/30 is try it. If it works, then yeeha, because 40/30/30 equals great taste.
Whatís in the bar?
Initially, the fat percentage of a PR Bar tends to scream Ďdonít touch ití for those trying to lose weight. However, once again, Iíll say, try the PR way. What if it works for you?
For those people with particular dietary requirements or just the urge to know, hereís a full list of the ingredients in the Strawberry Yoghurt flavored PR Bar.
Special PR* protein (consisting of soy protein isolate, calcium caseinate, and whey protein concentrate), high fructose corn syrup, soybeans, sucrose, peanut butter, fractionated palm kernel oil, soybean oil, yogurt solids, whey, nonfat dry milk, glycerine, lecithin, and natural flavours.
Additionally, the PR Bar is stocked well with vitamins and minerals. Itís a good sign that some quality science has gone into the product.
Vitamins & Minerals: Calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide, calcium phosphate, potassium phosphate, ascorbic acid, ferrous fumarate, tocopheryl acetate, niacin, zinc oxide, manganese citrate, copper gluconate, pantothenic acid, vitamin A, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, thiamine hydrochloride, chromium picolinate, vitamin D3, folic acid, biotin, potassium iodide and cyanocobalamin.
Nifty flavors for great taste
Iíll give PR some credit here. Theyíve actually created eight different flavors of PR Bar. Normally a brand of nutrition bar is lucky to come in two or three different flavors. So, what are the eight flavors?
Granola Crunch (Very Neil Diamond, donít you think?)
Peanut Butter Berry
Personally, Iíve only tried one of the eight: Strawberry Yoghurt.
The Strawberry Yoghurt PR Bar is a core of strawberry nougat dipped in a vanilla yoghurt type of icing. Theyíre very sweet, but very nice. But Iím a fan of that yoghurt icing stuff.
To be honest, these bars donít look or taste like health bars. I think the key to that is the license to use fat that the PR Nutrition philosophy gives. The human taste buds just adore sweet fat. Rest assured, you wont be suffering eating these things. I actually have a triathlete friend that scoffs these things like theyíre going out of style.
Just a little side note there, my triathlete friend is very big on drawing on fat reserves as an energy source, rather than relying solely on the more readily available fuels. The 40/30/30 looks better and betterÖ
Pricing and availability
Epinions have sourced a very generous deal through Physically Elite. A box of 12 bars is only $12.95. Thatís very affordable for nutrition bars. Quite often quality nutrition bars end up at over $3 each.
Joeís final word
Questions remain over the 40/30/30 approach to weight loss for me. However, if it works, then youíre in luck, because PR Bars donít taste anything like a health snack. Iím looking forward to the next flavor I try.
The PR Bar gets 4 stars.
Cheers for reading!
