Wish I hadn't traded in my old counter top model for this one
Written: Nov 17 '02
Pros:Good tasting water
Cons:filters run out quickly, product extends too far into sink, the water flow is slow
The Bottom Line: Unless you have a very deep sink, patience for the slow water, and are super rich to afford the replacement filters every few weeks, I would not recommend this filter.
For years we have used a 10" tall water filter that stands on the sink with plastic tubes that run along the faucet and end at a valve control at the water spout. It seemed that maybe it was time to be liberated from the old "dinosaur" and move on to a more streamlined "on the spout-mount" model. I guess I wanted my counter top space back (which was hardly infringed upon anyway) and I was having a difficult time finding replacement filters too. Now, I wish that I had searched harder for those filters for the old model. The advantage of it was that if you needed a new filter, it did not stop filtering water, it also gave a good steady flow of filtered water. The Pur model has a very weak flow and stops giving you any water from its spout when the filter is used. So, if you have no more filters, you are stuck, it will not produce any kind of water for you when the indicator shows that the filter is all used up. Our old model's filters were advised to be replaced two to three times a year, and the water still flowed so that you were able to get a new filter while still having water that had many of the impurities still eliminated. The Pur filter was having us replace the filter every month. Wow!! That's really expensive. I wanted it to work, I'm not a picky person, but this filter just did not fit our family's needs. Also, when installed, the depth of the sink goes from 6-7" deep to about 4". That's tough when you are trying to fill a pitcher for water or lemonade, or simply doing the dishes. It's too late to return it, but I did find some new filters for our old water filter at Sears, the only problem now is that my husband threw the old purifier away!! We sure learned a hard lesson. The old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" really applies here. I hope you all have better luck than we did.
