Pros:Better tasting water for coffee making and for pets, portable
Cons:might be bulky or ugly to some, hot or warm water will cause damage
The Bottom Line: What a great invention and the fact that it's portable really sold me. Get one for your pets and for better coffee
If you think about it, we use water so much and so often that it only makes sense to filter what we drink. Who knows what's in that tap water. The level of bacteria and other "nasties" can vary from city to city.
I really purchased this unit for two reasons - to filter the water that my dogs drink and the water I use to make my wife's coffee every morning. Of course I mentioned that part to her to validate the purchase. Sneaky, ain't I?
Installing the product was fairly simple. Unscrew the PUR housing and install the filter then replace the housing. Then you select one of three faucet adapters to attach it to your particular application. I would recommend using some of that white thread sealer tape before attaching the PUR unit.
Once you've attached the unit, switching from tap water to PUR water is a simple turn of the PUR knob located on the end.
All you need to do after that is let the COLD water run through the filter for about 5 minutes. I would collect this water in a container to water plants with instead of sending it down the drain. You might as well get use of the water you're paying for. Keep in mind, running warn or hot water through the filter can damage the inner workings of the filter and O-ring seals.
My wife and I did a taste test between the PUR water, the filtered water from our new refrigerator and Crystal Geyser. She picked the bottled water as her favorite but she preferred the PUR water to the water filtered through the fridge - but just barely. I attribute that to the fact that the filtering quality and type are identical.
I really like that the unit will alert you when the filter is about to go bad with a flashing yellow light and when is it's time to replace the filter with a flashing red light. When all is well it remains green. Simple and efficient.
There are four finishes for this product: white, chrome, stainless and black. I purchased the chrome to match our faucet and stayed away from the stainless because it's hard to keep clean.
Another great idea is the fact that you can take this with you on vacation to have piece of mind. The unit comes with three adapters for various faucet applications so it should fit most faucets.
Recently, I have been re-filling used Crystal Geyser water bottles with the water from the PUR tap. After being chilled, I really like the taste of the PUR water. There's no after taste!
Keep hydrated!
