Pros: Sturdy construction.
Cons: Holds stagnant water.
The Bottom Line: Don't bother. Buy a pitcher system instead (wash it regularly and store it in the fridge.)

Before trying this unit, I struggled with the Brita On-Tap system. Although this unit doesn't suffer from the many Brita design deficiencies, it does something quite harmful: it holds stagnant water. My mom bought this unit a year before I did. She was concerned that her unit wouldn't drain in either the horizontal or vertical position (in order to switch from filtered to regular tap water, the diverter is dependent on the position of the filter cartridge) and as a microbiologist, decided to do a little test. She opened her unit, popped out the filter and took a few swabs of the interior. She cultured the results and was surprised to find large colonies of bacteria growing in the unit. At that point, I had already bought my unit a couple of weeks ago and didn't quite believe her results. Then I had painful bouts of diarrhea that went on for days. . . and so did my cat to whom I fed filtered water. I sprayed the inside of the unit with a dilute solution of Javex (according to mom) and the diarrhea went away. But it came back in little over a week. I had no change in my diet nor did my cat. If I don't disinfect the unit every week, I have problems.
For some background info, I live in a large city on the West Coast where the water is treated by the municipality. My parents live in a large city in Ontario with treated water as well. They didn't have any gastro-intestinal problems because they boil all the water they drink, filtered or not. I'm not that paranoid, but I certainly do not intend to drink water directly from this unit without regular sanitation.
