In the last ten years or so, Nicaraguan cigars have moved back into the forefront of the world's highest quality and most valued cigars. Padron cigars are among the best of these.
The Padron high-end cigars, such as the Anniversary series, have drawn praise from many corners. The Padron 2000 and the slightly larger and stronger 3000 are said to rival these (I can't say, since I have only smoked several boxes of the less expensive ones due to the fact that I am not a millionaire and don't have a great deal of expendable income). I agreee that the Padron 2000 and 3000 are two of the best cigars that I have ever smoked, and may be better than many Cuban cigars selling at ten times as much.
This may be shocking or unbelievable to many of you who are new to cigar smoking or unaware of Padron cigars. But word-of-mouth ratings, which may be the most valuable, have led me to them; these high opinions of the cigars were verified on several cigar chat forums. I have smoked them for the last few years and the flavor and quality have been very consistent.
The Padron 3000 is a "Toro" or "Robusto" sized cigar that smokes with even more flavor than its size would indicate. It burns evenly and the wrapper is of high quality and smooth; there is a not unpleasant "barnyard" scent that the smoker might notice at the start, but at about half-way, you begin to realize that this is one of the most enjoyable smokes out there. It has a lot of complex flavors--"nutty," "chocolate," even "spicy" come to my mind, but none of these really mean a great deal to an experienced smoker. And Padron 3000's will probably appeal to the more mature and experienced cigar smoker because of their strength. If they are too strong, try a Padron 2000. I can't really recommend any Padrons in the smaller sizes because of my dissatisfaction with the Londres Maduro.
Try a Padron 3000--you'll like it.
