| sweet_caroline's Full Review: Palisade Toys The Muppet Show Series II: Fozzie Be... |
Fozzie Bear was one of my favorite characters from The Muppet Show, and now this figure is one of my favorites in my Muppet collection. Palisades has done another excellent job with the creation of this figure from Series 2 of the line.
SCULPT AND PAINT:
I find that the care and detail put into the figure really paid off. Fozzie looks absolutely great... just like he would if you saw him on The Muppet Show.
Fozzie is in his "birthday suit", except for his floppy oversized white and pink polka dot neck tie. The tie is made of soft pliable plastic, which I find gives it a nice unique touch.
Fozzie's plump and sturdy body is true to his Muppet character. From ears to toes he is detailed in a hairy brown texture, which portrays his furry coat perfectly.
His lively facial expression, with comically raised eyebrows, is one where you can imagine him saying one of his typical lines, such as "Hiya! Hiya! Hiya!", or "Wawka, wawka, wawka!". His big smile stretches from ear to ear. I like the look and think it really suits him, as we all know what a clown Fozzie is.
I find the overall appearance of the figure to be perfect. And, although he's not wearing much, I would still say that the detail and attention to likeness is superb.
ARTICULATION:
Fozzie has 5 points of articulation. His head turns from side to side, his legs rotate, and there are ball joints for his arms. This might not seem like much, but it suits this figure just fine. Adding joints in the knees and elbows would probably detract from the overall appearance of the figure. And although he doesn't have as much posing variety as some other Muppets, he does stand well on his own.
ACCESSORIES:
Fozzie comes with some cool props. This comedian bear could not be complete without his own microphone and stand, a rubber chicken and his big pair of joke glasses with big rubber nose and mustache. The accessories that Palisades chose are completely appropriate and make Fozzie appear ready to perform his comedy shtick.
Also included with Fozzie is his characteristic old brown bowler hat, which has always been too small for him. I have to congratulate Palisades for what they've done here. Normally this would be a hard accessory to keep on his head, but this hat has a small magnet in it and the top of Fozzie's head is magnetized. This works great for keeping the hat snugly in place. I thought this was genius, as I've never seen it on any other figure before.
Fozzie also comes with a round black stand, but like I said before, he stands just fine on his own.
PACKAGING:
Fozzie comes in a cardboard backed plastic bubble, the standard packaging for the first 3 waves of Muppet figures. I find this packaging to be more susceptible to damage and wear than the newer blister packages. The cardboard backing gives information about Fozzie's character, other members in the series, and credits the creators, painters, etc.
FINAL JUDGMENT:
Palisades' Fozzie figure is excellent. It has great likeness and detail and awesome props. It is a wonderful addition to any collection or just to display for fun. Be aware that if this figure is bought for a child, it has small parts and could possibly break with rough play, therefore I do not recommend Fozzie for children under 5.
