Did Someone Say "DYNAMITE???" *KA-BLOOOOM!!!!!*

Pros: Sculpt, paint job...and accessories really do make the madman.
Cons: Only that the little detonator doesn't ACTUALLY blow anything up.
The Bottom Line: Despite or perhaps because of his obscurity, Crazy Harry is one of my favorites in the Muppet Show line of action figures.

Muppets are crazy. So when one of them is actually NAMED “Crazy Harry,” you know it’s gotta be bad. You may not know Crazy Harry by name, but you probably know him from The Muppet Show and the Muppet Movies. Crazy Harry is the unstable guy who, whenever someone said “Hey, that’s dynamite!” would pop up with his detonator plunger and say, “Did you say, ‘dynamite?’” and then blow up the set. Now remember, that in the 70’s, people said “dynamite!” more than they do now. So you have this freak running around backstage at the Muppet Theatre, his role never exactly clear; Crazy Harry is the LAST Muppet I thought I’d ever see gracing my toy shelf. Along with Lew Zealand and some others in the wings, Palisades is doing Muppet Fandom a huge favor by giving us toys other than Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
And they’re doing it well. They’ve made a third (or fourth) tier character into a must-have toy. How did they do it? A great sculpt and some accessories that are quite literally the bomb.
Crazy Harry is sculpted as the grinning madman that he is—the sculptors got the manic glee in his eyes and mouth down perfectly. He’s got this sallow skin that’s not quite yellow, not quite green, not quite human…but the colors on the figure match the puppet perfectly. He’s got crazy hair and a crazy beard, and…well, he’s just plumb crazy.
Rumor has it that master puppeteer Frank Oz, upon seeing the Crazy Harry action figure, said, “I didn’t even know that guy HAD legs!” He also loved the figure. It can be off-putting to see some of these character’s lower halves, but with Crazy Harry, his body makes sense. He’s sculpted so he’s hunched over, arms and hands ready to go to town. He’s wearing an almost military ensemble, with an olive shirt, dark pants, and black combat boots. Appropriate attire for his demolitive duties.
So the figure’s great, but what about the accessories? Crazy Harry comes well equipped to take out ANY lame stage production. His accessories include two sticks of dynamite, a detonator plunger, a black round bomb “with real fuse!” and a large keg of gunpowder. The gunpowder keg even opens to allow for storage of the other accessories—a nice touch. Even better, Crazy Harry is actually able to use all of the accessories. He’s got enough articulation to be able to hold them all, one of my favorite poses for him is with him holding a stick of dynamite in each hand, eagerly waiting to use them on his friends. What a guy.
If you’ve been holding off on picking up the Muppets action figures, I don’t know what you’ve been waiting for. The sculpts on these are among the best Muppet merchandise I’ve EVER seen, and all of the figures have been filled with play value. If you’re looking for a toy, if you’re looking for memorabilia, I can’t recommend these enough. Crazy Harry is one of the more obscure Muppet characters, but it delights me to say that he’s one of the stars of my toy collection. Great work, Palisades!
