A story of a young College kid whose name we will with hold.
He was a brave soul, if not a bit unstable. He was notorious for doing quite stupid things (well maybe not stupid to him but quite stupid in a evil way through the eyes of his parents), like overdrawing in his checking account, or not remembering important dates, and most importantly losing numbers given to him by quite attractive members of the opposite sex.
These are the years that will be known as B.P. (Before Palm) throughout the rest of this simple story.
It was one fine day after Justin, er...I mean this young lad began to wonder what he should use his hard earned and saved money on. He had already established a DVD collection of over 145 movies and was beginning to tire of spending his hard earned cash on this little passion (*cough* obsession) of his. So there arose the idea, the dream, the goal, neh, the ideal of purchasing a PDA.
Let me tell ya ladies and gents, post PDA life is a much more sane one if anything. My review is not about this but if your interested in getting into the PDA game by all means do it and reap the benefits for a lifetime (or that day you gain a few and forget your PDA is in your backpocket).
This is not a cheap toy, and the Palm m505 is not necessarily a must. First thing is first, having a PALM is a must, but owning a m505 is the cherry on top.
I'm sure you've researched it some so I'm not going to BS with the gooey details, tech numbers, etc., etc., etc.
What I will tell you is that everything you need to live on a deserted island is this little computer that snuggly fits in your pocket (assuming you do have a power socket on this island). We have account managers, datebooks, a HUGE address book, calculators, AOL access, an expansion slot for game cards, roadmaps, and even more memory. This thing is a hoss.
Problems with it. $450 is a bit much and a lot of the standard applications are found on much cheaper models, but if your willing to splurge for the color screen and the expansion slot its worth it. Another problem is that the color screen is not as powerful as I had hoped. You pretty much need to be in direct light to see it well. Luckily there is a backlight that allows a clear view anywhere but it drains the battery like a frat boy at a keg.
Stuff people complain about but should not.
A) I have no problem with the battery life if you put it on the charger whenever your home it WONT be a problem.
B) I've heard people complain about it not having MP3 support. What!? I bought this badboy to organize my life, if I wanted a portable cdplayer I would get one
C) It has not evolved enough...why mess with perfection???
It's easy to use. It's a blast to show off, and the games card is to die for. Have you ever been bored waiting in line somehwere or got sick of paying attention in class? Bust the palm m505 out and have a quick game of chess with it, or play SimCity! There are millions of downloadable applications and games on the internet for your PDA. Many free, some cost money, regardless there are ones you don't want to miss out on.
I highly suggest the leather wallet sleeve, so you can keep your cash and credit cards on your PDA. This way when you use that credit card, or write a check you see your palm and remember to balance your account. Also when you pull it out everyone around you will give it a few sharp glances in awe.
So all in all you need a PDA, hands down, it has made me a better man, and given a more efficient single life as well. I think the upgrading ability through the memory slot is worth the price alone of the m505, and the color screen regardless of some problems is definitely worth the upgrade as well.
This is an expensive unit but if your willing to shell out some cash for a Palm why not wait a little bit, save up some more cash, and get the newest and the best, and be able to upgrade it for years?
So your getting a PDA, do you HAVE to have this one? No, but damn that silver cast and color screen look nice!
(P.S. by saying PDA I am talking about PalmPilot as I consider them far and away to be the best at making PDAs, and their products are easier to use, and more efficient. Also as I am holdling back on some information as to appease some of the more attention deficit readers we may have, as always feel FREE to email me with any questions or comments)
