I bought the m105 to use as a "lightweight" companion to my Handspring Visor Deluxe and I can safely say that the m105 is superior to the Visor in one way, and one way only: size.
The new m105 comes with 8mb of RAM which is quite an improvement over the original m100's measly 2MB. The Palm operating system (OS) is not upgradeable on this machine, which reflects Palm's interest in targeting the entry-level PDA owner who often has little interest in upgrading an operating system. As for style, one can choose from a multitude of colored faceplates at $19.95 each to jazz up the look of the m105.
The best feature of the m105 is its tiny size. This, combined with 8MB of RAM, makes it a useful, and PORTABLE, organizational tool. This device will fit comfortably in a shirt pocket, unlike the Handspring Visor Deluxe, which is simply too heavy to carry in this manner.
For those techies who might complain that the m105 does not have an upgradeable OS, do take note that it does run Palm OS 3.5, which, while it may not be the latest OS release, is a robust OS full of nice features. For most users, this OS will easily give them what they need for the duration of the time they own the m105.
Another legitimate criticism of the m105 is that data displayed on the tiny screen may be difficult to read for those of us who don't have the best vision. This is the tradeoff associated with the smaller, curved-bottom case. To get this look Palm had to shrink the display, meaning data displayed on-screen is essentially reduced in size as compared to data displayed on a Palm III series PDA or a Handspring Visor PDA. Imagine reducing a document on a Xerox machine from 100% to 80% and you begin to get an idea of what you'll see on the m105 (the 80% reduction) versus the Handspring Visor display (100% original).
Overall, I like the look and feel of the m105. Of late, I've been using it a bit more than my Visor Deluxe, mainly because the m105 is so easy to carry in my pocket wherever I go. When the need for expandability arises, however, I'll be back to the Visor and integrated Springboard slot.
