Pros: Feels small,
carves well,
lightweight,
super fast base,
stainless steel edges.
Cons: Nothing so far.
The Bottom Line: A fast board with more technology in it than the Starship Enterprise. Carves like a it's on rails. And, doesn't cost the earth either.
Until recently I had my heart set on an Arbor Woodie, Flow boots and Flow bindings. However, after an impulsive trip to the Princeton Ski/The Boarding House's blowout sale, I ended up with a Palmer Classic, Drake F60's and a pair of Northwaves. Ok, so the salesman and a great deal swung it, but I'd also read up on the gear and it looked like I was getting a steal...
Boy was I in for a surprise... a very pleasant surprise. I'm all but 6", so the sales guy told me to go for the 161. Being a newbie, I figured that a smaller board would be better, but went with a 161 anyway. I couldn't have made a better decision. It hold fast turns like it's on rails, switches from edge to edge in the blink of an eye, turns on a dime and feels like a much smaller board overall. It carves beautifully in powder and even bites hard into packed East Coast snow/ice. Being new to boarding, I don't have too much to compare it to, but it feels very light and responsive. This is probably why it feels smaller than it really is.
One of the coolest things about the Classic is that it's slow when you want it to go slow and fast when you don't. Very fast. That might sound obvious, but being a newbie, I thought it might take me for ride. Nothing could be further from the truth. When I decided to ride fast (most of the time), it's precise feedback and amazing edging meant I always in total control.
