I will start of with a little bio, I have been snowboarding of and on since 1995 with about 20 times under my belt coming into this season. So by all means I am not an expert but I aspire to be. My first board was a 1996/1997 Division 23 with Morrow binding and some “Sportmart special’s” softboots. Which I sold about 3 years back after softball injury that resulted in a torn ACL. This summer I decided to give snowboarding another chance with a trip to High Cascade Snowboard Camp at Mt. Hood in August 2001. At camp I rode a Burton Canyon 162 with Burton Custom bindings and boots of a manufacture I can’t remember. I was quite impressed with this board. It handed really well in the summer conditions and it rode switch really well. The only drawback that it was a bit unstable at speed, which I then attributed to my lack of experience. Even so after leaving camp I has my heart set on a new Burton board, either a Burton Cascade or Canyon but went with the Palmer at the last minute not sure what to expect. I purchased my 2000/2001 Palmer Classic 165 on ebay for $200 this fall, what a deal this turned out to be. I have not been disappointed; this board handles like a dream. My other components are 2001/2002 Drake F-50 bindings, 2000/2001 Vans Daniel Franks Boots and Palmer Power Link system. I have rode it 12 times so far this winter and I have been more impressed with the board each time I ride. I feel that this board has increased my riding considerably. I have literally scared the crap out of myself flying down some groomers at Mt. Rose; I have yet to unleash the full potential. The board is very stable and quick and responsive on edge. I also rode the trees at Sierra at Tahoe with 8” of fresh POW last week. The board floated beautifully in the POW and helped me out of more than one tight spot in the trees. Even with the board being 165 it didn’t feel long at all in the trees. I have also jibbed a few rails with this board at MT Seymour, BC. It truly is an All-Mountain board it has felt at home everywhere that I have taken it. The only minor drawbacks with this board is that I had a little trouble getting used to the first couple times riding it and it doesn’t handle as well riding switch as the Burton Canyon I rode. But as I said the drawbacks are minor, I would highly recommend a Palmer Classic to anybody who likes an all-round snowboard. I also would like to praise the Palmer brand because if the rest of the models are anything like the Classic, Wow!! Buy a Palmer you won’t be disappointed!!!
