samarayum's Full Review: Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula Dark Chocolate & Pepp...
I have a self proclaimed lip gloss addiction, I don’t know what it is, but I am compelled to always buy more even though I currently have 3 in my purse, 4 in my desk at work, one in the pocket of my car door, and a whole drawer in my jewelry box packed to the hilt with various balms, butters, and glosses. It’s a problem, but I suppose I could be addicted to worse things! While perusing the coveted section I came across the Palmer Chocolate and Peppermint product. As a child I remember my mother having the tub of Cocoa Butter around and how much I adored the sweet smell of it. It was a nostalgic smell of my childhood and I decided that I simply must have the lip butter.
The packaging states: “Soften and soothe your dry, chapped lips with this unique, dark chocolate and peppermint lip butter. A special formulation of Palmer's 100% pure Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E and Petrolatum provides ultra-moisturization and a hint of gloss with the delicious scent of dark chocolate and peppermint. This one-of-a-kind lip butter gives you a slight tingle so you know it's working to combats even the driest lips. The addition of Peppermint Oil freshens breath naturally.”
Now the way the packaging makes it sound and it being chocolate you would think the butter would be tinted brown, but it’s not. The butter comes out in an opaque white color that goes on your lips very smoothly. I was a little leery at first that it would come out brown, but it doesn’t so put those worries to rest.
The tube is a solid plastic container, no dial to turn. In order to expel the product you squeeze the tube (like toothpaste) and a small opening on the top which is angled for better lip application dispenses the product. Then you simply sweep it across your lips. The directions state that it can be used under or over lipstick or alone. I’m not a lipstick wearer so I go natural with my lip products. It adds a subtle gloss and it isn’t chunky or too thick on the lips. The flavor is subtle, yet delicious tasting. It isn’t medicinal or have a horrible factory made chocolate taste like many other chocolate products. Best of all it won’t leave your lips tinted brown. Also, the peppermint flavor is also subtle and a perfect compliment to the chocolate. Depending on what you’re doing, eating, drinking, etc. the product remains on the lips for sometime. It is an adult variant of flavored lip products. It has just the right about of flavor and shine for a natural look and not overpowering scent.
The lip butter, which is more like a thick gloss does aid in moisturizing. There is no SPF in it and nothing medicinal other then Vitamin E. To me the product is moreso a cosmetic fix rather then a lip fix for chapped lips. It's there for shine and quick moisturizing fix.
The tube is .35 oz. I purchased my tube for $3.99 at Walgreens. It was located in the regular lip care section, usually by the cold stuff. I don’t know why lip balm/gloss seems to always be by the cold stuff and not the make up, but so be it!
