Who's doing dishes tonight?

Written: Nov 28 '06
Pros:Mild on hands, tough on grease.
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: This has been around for a very long time.

Since there's so many types of dish washing liquid, there are choices for each person with individual needs. There are scented, several different colors, special ingredients for environmental conscious individuals, sensitivity to those with allergies to detergents and various prices.

My preference has always been this Palmolive original green bottle for various reasons to emulsify grease in dish water which assists in a thorough rinsing.

Performance - When I wash dishes by hand I find this thick dish liquid to outperform all others I've tried. How? I can tell when I add a small amount in the water the consistency is thicker than others and therefore uses less to cut through grease and foods. It works great to remove dried on and cooked on foods than others and therefore uses less to cut through grease and foods.

It has removed tough stains on with little effort. Some of the other popular brands I always need to use 4 times more than with Palmolive. I have tried many of the popular competitors when there was a great sale or it was free with a coupon to compare the with this Palmolive Original.

I have noticed some other brands break down faster and I have to change the water and add more dish liquid to finish my job. Palmolive Original seems to wash more dishes since it does not break down as quickly as others.

Scented dish washing liquid is not necessarily effective. I do not care for scents on my glasses, silverware, dishes and other items I wash. Some people might enjoy the smell of flowers, fruits and other scents while doing dishes. Any fragrance contains chemicals. So why would I want to use it on cleaning items I use to drink or eat with? I rarely check ingredients on dish washing liquids, I play it safe and stay away from scented products when cleaning cooking and serving products.

Some dish washing liquids come in very colorful liquids such as yellow, lavender, etc. to match your decor. I don't leave the bottle out therefore, the color is irrelevant to my choice.

Price - When I see a very good buy on any other brand, I do purchase one just but always go back to the Palmolive Original brand. I usually purchase several to last me a couple of months when I see a good sale and often use coupons. I have no preference to the size since I mainly purchase this product for the value. Some weeks the smaller size is a better value than the larger bottle. A 13 oz. bottle can cost $.99 at grocery stores.

If you base your purchase on price, you may end up using much more to effectively clean your dishes and not save money in the long run.

If you are sensitive to dish washing liquid products, you can use gloves. I've only used gloves if I had a rash on my hands from dry skin problems. Palmolive Original claims to be soften hands while doing dishes.

As with any cleaning product, read the back label for safety suggestions.

How do I wash dishes?
Everyone has a method of doing their dishes. I soak my dishes in hot soapy water using this "Palmolive Original". After rinsing, I then let everything air dry. I don't use a towel to dry. This method works great for me and I notice when I put everything away there are no streaks or spots on my glasses. My pots and silverware have that shiny new luster. I know my method works since I've compared others that have the same pots as I do and using a dishwasher has damaged the luster compared to mine which were the same type and age.

Overall
I've used Palmolive Original for ages and find it to be the most effective for dish washing chores. This product has not changed since it remains to be a popular brand. I plan on using this since it has performed as claimed "Tough on Grease, Soft on hands". Made by Colgate-Palmolive, a reputable cleaning company. Visit www.palmolive.com for further details. This product may state that it softens hands, but when rinsing your items you are still running water on your hands so this may not hold true to any cleaning product. I still use a hand lotion on my hands after I'm done.

I use this liquid to clean my table and counter at times. This can also be used to hand wash delicate clothing.

I base my purchase for this product on performance not price. I have not tried all the dish washing liquids since there are too many but compared to those that I've tried, this to me is still my number 1 brand.
