This is one of those items that I would never have purchased for myself pre-motherhood. I like apples, but am content to eat them whole on the rare occasion that I do so. My 2-year-old, on the other hand, loves apples and wants to eat them often. He, however, will not eat an apple whole, with or without skin.. he's a slices type of guy.
A few months ago I held a Pampered Chef party in order to receive free and reduced cost products for myself. The Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425 was one of the items that I picked up for free. Normally this product sells for $11 when purchased directly from a Pampered Chef consultant or at a home party.
An Apple..What?
The Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425 is yet another gadget which will take up space in your kitchen drawer. But if you have a young child who enjoys apple wedges (plain or dipped in peanut butter), this kitchen tool will not gather dust.
The Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425 is a single piece of stainless steel that is designed to core an apple and slice it into 10 equal sized wedges with a single move. To use it, you simply put your apple on a cutting board and then center it so that the stem is through the center of the cutter. Then, holding firmly onto the handle on each side (with both hands), press down. Voila!. Your apple is now cored, wedged, and ready for eating (or dipping if you choose). To clean it, simply put it in your dishwasher or handwash it and put it away.
Our Experience
I wonder what I did before I got my Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425. Ok, I know what I did. I used a paring knife to cut my son's apples up into pieces and remove the core. The pieces were always assymetrical (yes, it bugged me) and more than once I'd cut myself because I was hurrying. Now, using the Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425, my son has perfectly symmetrical apple pieces and my fingers say thank you.
The Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425 works best with small to medium sized apples. Any apple that fits into the circumference of the wedger will do, but that means some of the really big juicy ones must be cut up by hand. If an apple is on the larger side you might still get some seeds in the wedges. Or, I've found some apples have "crooked" cores making it slightly harder to press down on the wedger. These cases are so rare, that I really can't complain.

Overall
Having the Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425 has certainly increased the apple consumption in our house tenfold. Apple pieces are a perfect healthy snack for pretty much any time of day. They are even easy to take along with us when we are on the go. To prevent the apple from browning just spritz it with some lemon juice or any lemon-lime soda.
I absolutely love my Pampered Chef Apple Wedger 2425 and reccommend it to anyone with children who like to eat apples. Is it necessary? No. But its a gadget that really does make things simpler around here.
