If there is one thing that I can use everyday, it is this Baker's Roller.
Wait...do you think that I mean that I make pies, cookies, pizzas or something like that everyday? Heeheehee! Nope, you've got it wrong! I actually prefer to use this product for a much more important use in my life. This is a great tool to use to roll out the knots in my shoulders! Yes, this is a great tool for massage! It helps remove some stress, and sure does roll out a good piecrust too!
And no, I'm not kidding! It may seem strange, but this actually is not the only multi-tasking Pampered Chef product in my home! I can think of at least 5 more, and hopefully I will get to review them hopefully in the near future.
Of course, this product was actually designed to be a one handed rolling pin, with two sizes of rollers to do two separate tasks. But, let me tell you a little more about the features before I get ahead of myself:
(The features list is information Pampered Chef from materials they provided to me in hard copy, not online. All commentary is my own.)
Easy-to-use: Yes, it just takes one hand to operate this roller, so it makes it easy for anyone to use!
Versatile: This little baby does it all! You can roll out cookies, biscuits, rolls (mmmmm...cinnamon rolls), pie crusts, pizza dough, braids, rings...yummy yummy!!
Two Plastic Rollers: With two rollers, one larger straight one and one smaller tapered one, it makes it easy to switch from rolling flat to rolling up the sides of a pie plate or baking dish!
Stain Resistant, Textured Rollers: So even if you use this with food-colored cookies, it should resist deep penetrating stains. It also has a wood grain like textured surface, which minimizes sticking.
Contoured Handle with Two Finger Rests: Rolling should be more comfortable and easy to control.
Pastry Tool: Yep, no need to dirty a fork again! This small piece of nylon makes it's home on the flip side of the handle and stays there until you need it. Just detach it and use the rounded end to make your own decorative edge, or use the fork like end to pierce the dough as a steam vent. I like it!
Polypropylene Roller: This makes it more durable for long-term wear.
Nylon Pastry Tool and Handle: This allows the pastry tool to be used with cold or warm pastry or dough and will not distort the tool. It also makes it more durable.
Compact Size/Dimensions: It does fit well into my drawer, or with the small end sticking down into my Stoneware Crock that holds my bigger tools. It is compact, although my rolling pin fits better in storage than this one does. It all depends on your storage situation as to if it will be compact or not for you.
The entire Baker's Roller itself is 10 1/4" in length. The pastry tool is 3 1/8" in length.
Three Year Guarantee: Yes, it has a warranty for 3 whole years! Good to know, just in case.
Use and Care: With each product always comes a use and care information card. There is always at least one recipe, and this one comes with one for Banana Split Pie.
Exclusive: While the patent is pending, this product is manufactured exclusively for Pampered Chef, and made in Switzerland.
Any tips on how to use it or care for it?
If you are looking to purchase this item, I'm guessing that you may already have a rolling pin, or at least know how to use one. This works just the same, but with only one hand needed, and has a smaller surface area.
Now, to care for this product, you can just wash it in the dishwasher, or by hand with warm, soapy water. It is recommended to place the pastry tool separate from the roller though in a covered holder in the dishwasher, as it can be small enough to fly out under pressure.
While I do not think the pastry tool is sharp, it is highly recommended to treat it like a sharp knife, and keep it out of the reach of children.
My Recommendation
I have found that I love my roller, even though I do not use it for baking very often. It is a must have in my kitchen as we do enjoy the occasional braid or ring, but I prefer to use it whenever possible to roll the knots out of my neck and shoulders. I have found it very useful, and so easy to use that my oldest son, Alex, always wants in on the action!
So if you would like something that a child can help with, and something that gives you more versatility with two rollers or different shape, this is a great tool for you. My son knows we are going to have something really good whenever I bring it out, and I hope that it will inspire you to bake more often too!
