Have you ever been at someone else’s home and been impressed with the appetizers that they had prepared? Perhaps their cucumbers had been cut with a cute horizontal design on them. Personally I can tell you that I do not fall into the category of one with too much time on her hands. I also don’t classify myself as a Martha Stewart want-to-be. But, there are those few times that I like to arise to the occasion and make something special. Plus, it always seems to give me bonus points with my kids! So for those instances, I turn to some of my Pampered Chef kitchen gadgets.
Yes, I did happen to bring in bread once to a classroom party in the shape of a flower. Was it hard to do? No. I plopped a can of packaged refrigerated dough bread into my Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube, baked it, let it cool, and then cut into slices with the end result of small slices of bread looking like a flower (minus the stem). Should I mention what a hit this bread was with the kids?
~ Is it really that easy to make? ~
Truthfully, yes it is. My problem seems to be, remembering that I have the darn thing! For you see, my Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube is packed neatly inside the box it came in and tucked back in the corner of the cabinet above my microwave. Maybe if I moved it into a more visible spot I would use it more. But then again, maybe if I had the extra hour to bake this in the evening for dinner that would help too!
My Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube measures nearly 9 inches in length and is made out of steel. I have had mine for several years now and it looks just like it did from day one, with the exception of a hard water spot of two. There are three pieces to this bread tube. You have the long scalloped piece shape that is the bulk of your bread dough being transformed into baked bread with scalloped edges. The other two pieces are the end caps. One for either end of the tube. So you know which lid goes on the top or bottom, the top lid features a small hole on it. This is to allow steam to release during baking.
Prior to first use, make sure that you wash and dry by hand (right away) your Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube. In fact, make sure that this is how you always clean and dry your bread tube. If you are looking for quick clean up in the dishwasher be advised that Pampered Chef does not recommend that this product be placed in the dishwasher. This information is noted on the insert inside the package for this bread tube and also available on the Pampered Chef website. It is also noted that this product could rust if not dried immediately. I have seen that happen to a friends bread tube, so make sure you dry completely.
While you can use either packaged refrigerated bread dough or even frozen bread dough, I have always stuck with the refrigerated. It is just easier for me to pull out the refrigerated dough and not have to worry about planning ahead on defrosting the frozen the day before or so when I need it. Our afternoons are quite hectic in this household, so the easier the better!
One of the most important things you need to remember when using your Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube is that it needs to be sprayed completely with a nonstick cooking spray. While this does make a mess of sorts to clean up after the cooking process, I have found that a bottle (baby) brush works well in getting those hard to reach areas. Make sure that you also spray both the bottom and top lid, as you do not want your bread baking itself to either part.
Now that you have preheated your oven (375 degrees) and sprayed your Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube thoroughly with nonstick cooking spray, there really is not a lot more that has to be done. I simply plop a package a refrigerated bread dough inside my bread tube making sure that the top lid is on top, and place in my oven in the standing position (important) on the lowest rack available and let it bake. Yes, it really is just that simple! According to the Pampered Chef instructions that came with my bread tube, the baking process takes between 50 – 60 minutes. If you need to check and see if your bread is finished, please use extreme caution, as all pieces will be hot. Once baking is completed, remove from the bread tube, let cool and then slice to your liking!

While I thought that I was being pretty creative once by preparing rice crispy treats using this bread tube; they offer suggestions of some frozen type desserts that sound very yummy!

~ Now I have to decide, is it worth the price? ~
Hmm … Is the Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube worth the price? For $6.50 you can purchase this Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube from any Pampered Chef consultant, which really is not a great deal of money to have to part with. In fact, if you find yourself at a party this product is one of the lower end items, which … looked very good to me when looking at the order form.
When I do use my Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube I find that it is easy to use and I usually receive many compliments on my creative bread selection. My next door neighbor used hers on a weekly basis when her son was younger. He loved sweet bread, and she would take a packaged refrigerated bread dough, slice it open and rub some butter and cinnamon sugar in the center, close back up and then place inside the bread tube and bake. Some weeks she would be making this on a daily basis for her son. I would have to say that I use my own scalloped bread tube just a handful of times a year. Not because it is a difficult process, buy mostly because the 50-60 baking time just doesn’t cut it in my quick dinner routine. And then sometimes because I have forgotten that this is tucked up high in the cabinet, out of sight!
So, if you have the time to bake, I would say why not pick up the Pampered Chef Scalloped Bread Tube? You can bake your creative breads or, even experiment with some of those fun sounding frozen desserts! If you don’t have the time to bake, then I would just pass and save your $6.50 for something else!
