Pros: Inexpensive, durable, dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe, safe, no rust, warranty
Cons: Messy removal
I have always loved corn on the cob, and my older daughter Miranda (18 months), does too! I dont, however, appreciate greasy, buttery fingers. I actually am kind of obsessive about it. I like my hands to be clean, all the time.
For as long as I can remember in my life, Ive been using the corn holders that look like the little ears of corn. In fact, I had no idea that there was even any other option than that until last year when my friend who is a Pampered Chef consultant, introduced the Corn Cob Nobs to me.
The Pampered Chef Corn Cob Nobs look like plastic, but they are actually nylon which is much stronger and more durable than plastic. In fact, Pampered Chef claims that these are unbreakable! They are green, and while ordinary corn holders push in, these screw into uncooked corn and then cool instantaneously after cooking. The item # is 2455, and they come in a bag of 8 for $3.25.
The Pampered Chef Corn Cob Nobs are microwave safe, and also dishwasher safe though they are also easily cleaned with warm, soapy water. These corn holders dont rust like your old ones did! They come with a 1 year guarantee from Pampered Chef.
I love just how secure the Pampered Chef Corn Cob Nobs are. Since they are threaded, they just wont slip out during use. Also, they are much safer than the traditional metal prongs, since you cant get poked! The only negative aspect of the Pampered Chef Corn Cob Nobs that I can think of is that it is messy to unscrew them after use. Really though, this doesnt bother me, because when Im removing them that means Im either preparing my dishes for the dishwasher, or Im getting ready to wash dishes either way, my hands are going to be washed very shortly!
How to use - Cut off ends of each corn cob. Insert a Corn Cob Nob into each end with a firm twisting motion. Boil, steam or microwave corn as usual. Remove corn using tongs and serve immediately the Corn Cob Nobs cool in seconds.
Tip: When BBQing corn, be sure to wrap corn and Corn Cob Nobs in HEAVY DUTY aluminum foil!
Microwave use - Place 2-4 ears in covered casserole with ? cup water. Cook 4-5 minutes on high. Remove from oven. Leave covered an additional minute before serving.
I highly recommend the Pampered Chef Corn Cob Nobs! For only $3.25, how can you not give them a try?!
