| hlbirk's Full Review: Pampered Chef Family Heritage Stoneware Bar Pan 14... |
As noted in previous reviews, yes I am a Pampered Chef Kitchen Consultant but I'm not here to personally sell you anything. If this product sounds interesting enough you may e-mail me for more information or go to www.pamperedchef.com and find a Consultant in your area.
If you've never baked on stoneware before this is definitely going to be a treat! The Stoneware Bar Pan is equal in size to a sheet cake pan. The handles are built into the sides of the pan for easy removal from the oven. The pan features 1" high sides which means you can make anything from chicken to french fries on it!
Stoneware is a clay-like material that is porous and used to maintain heat. This pan will keep your food warm for up to approximately 40 minutes after you remove it from the oven. Yes, this does affect your cooking time somewhat...take brownies and cakes out a few minutes early because they will continue to bake slightly. Because the material is porous it will bake evenly from inside to out, top to bottom. What exactly does that mean? It means that however your food looks on the top, it looks the same on the bottom. This is especially awesome when baking cookies or biscuits.
When I first got my Stoneware Bar Pan out of the box the directions said to bake a high fat item, like biscuits, for the first time to "season" the stone. For those of you that cook with cast iron, it's a similar situation. Once you've cooked everything from Cool Veggie Pizza to Baked Chicken in your pan it will begin to "season" and turn brown in color. This is a good thing!
I use my pan to reheat that leftover pizza from the delivery guy. Why would I heat up the oven just to reheat pizza? When you have a Stoneware Bar Pan it's definitely worth it! My leftovers came out crispy just like they were freshly delivered, or even straight from the oven of the pizza place! When making homemade pizza I can be assured that the inside will be just as done and crispy as the outside...all while making sure the outside doesn't have "pizza bones" for me to peel or cut off later.
Another benefit is that the stone can be used in the oven, refrigerator, freezer and microwave! You just have to make sure that you're not going from 350 degree oven to freezer immediately! Make sure the pan is cooled to room temperature first.
One of the drawbacks, if it is one, is that that the Stoneware Bar Pan is not dishwasher safe. After it cools completely it should be washed in hot water with NO SOAP, scraped with the Nylon Scraper (included) if needed, rinsed and then towel dried. If someone accidentally puts in the in the dishwasher it will crack, either immediately or the next time it's placed in a hot oven. Should this happen and you have your receipt Pampered Chef will take care of the replacement. (See your Consultant for details)
So how much does this baby cost? It's $28.00 and comes with a 3-year warranty. It can only be ordered through a Consultant, and I've personally found that it's one of the biggest Hostess requests when they have a Show. The Hostess of the Show has the option of getting items at half-price, up to a 30% discount or even FREE and the Stoneware Bar Pan has been on almost every order I've put through! Why shouldn't it be? It's versatile, easy to clean, has a 3-year warranty, is made in the USA and comes with your very own Consultant!
Note: Pampered Chef also carries a Small Bar Pan which is exactly the same thing, only smaller. This is great for singles, elderly, college graduates or even families that all like different types of pizza...they can each make individual kinds!
