This review is on the Pampered Chef Garlic Press, item #2575 in the Pampered Chef catalog
under the Kitchen Companions section.
From the Catalog:
"Press garlic or ginger without peeling! Use the detachable cleaning tool
so you never have to touch the garlic. Ergonomically designed contoured handle."
Sight and Feel:
The Pampered Chef Garlic Press is solid in feel with it's weight of 6
oz. It has a sleek silver design that should have no trouble matching any
kitchen. It's ergonomic design and length of 6 1/2 inches makes it a
comfortable fit in most hands. The Pampered Chef Garlic Press opens all
the way to expose a fairly large space meant to fit the largest of garlic cloves
and other squeezables like fresh ginger. There are no tiny crannies for
food pieces to hide in and looks as if it would be easy to clean by hand or with
a dishwasher. By sight and feel, the quality of the garlic press is
already obvious.
The Pampered Chef Garlic Press also comes with a
detachable tool. This tool is made of gray plastic and can be used to push
out any food that gets stuck in the holes and/or to scrape off any excess garlic
that does not fall easily away as you squeeze. When storing the press, the
tool snaps easily to the front and can be just as easily removed when ready to
use.
Why Is This Better Than the Other
Garlic Presses?
The advantage to owning a garlic press is that fresh pressed garlic allows a
better release of the garlic's natural essential oils in cooking. This
gives us a chance to thoroughly enjoy the truly sharp and bold flavor of the
garlic in our recipes.
I have owned one other garlic press and had so much
trouble with it, that I vowed never to buy another one again. That is
until I got convinced to make this purchase. I was but reluctant and had
already made up my mind that I wouldn't like it before it arrived at my door.
Once removing it from the box and recognizing a quality product, I was ready to
try it out.
The biggest advantage of all to the Pampered Chef Garlic Press
is that there is no need to peel the garlic clove before pressing. Just
place the whole clove in the press, close, squeeze, and walla, you have a
perfectly pressed clove of garlic with little or no waste behind. The peel
will normally come out in one piece without any hassle at all by just lifting it
out with your fingers, but if it does get stuck or if you do not want to touch
the garlic at all, you can use the little gray tool. Push the tool through
the holes of the press and shake over the garbage. That's all there is to
it.
One of the reasons I had so much trouble with my other garlic press was
that it was extremely difficult to squeeze. It took an incredible amount
of strength to press just one clove and that was after having to remove the skin
too. So you can imagine the amount of work it took if a recipe called for
4 pressed cloves of garlic. Not with the Pampered Chef Garlic Press.
Not only do you not have to remove the skin, but it is also very easy to
squeeze. My 7 yr old daughter has had no trouble at all squeezing garlic
for me on occasion. In fact, she loves doing it and it gives us another
chance to spend time together in the kitchen. I am always thrilled when I
come across kitchen tools that are not only safe for her to use, but easy as
well.
I have also used my Pampered Chef Garlic Press for items other
than garlic. I have pressed fresh ginger for stir fry dishes, I have used
it to press bouillon cubes so they would dissolve faster and easier in whatever
dish I have been making, and on occasion, we have even used it to make great
hair out of playdough for my children's playdough pals. This brings me to
another great plus of this garlic press, it is rust resistant and dishwasher
safe! It washes completely clean so even if I used it with black playdough
the night before, I feel confident enough that I will not see any mysterious
black specks in my recipe, to use it without worry the very next morning.
The Pampered Chef Garlic Press also comes with a 2 year guarantee.
Care and Handling:
The Pampered Chef Garlic Press and cleaning tool are both dishwasher
safe, however it is recommended to place the cleaning tool in the utensil holder
of the dishwasher.
Any Negatives About the Product?
Absolutely nothing, I use mine every day!
