| ariel10575's Full Review: Pampered Chef Measuring Tools: Adjustable Measurin... |
I do not know about you, but I have found it difficult to have enough room to fit all of my kitchen gadgets, spoons, spatulas, turners, etc, in the cabinets and drawers my kitchen came with. Maybe I just have too much, but I just did not feel that I could do without anything.
Over the years, I found that I had bought and inherited several sets of some items. I liked having some of it, because it never seemed like I could find what I wanted when I needed it! The biggest problem has been with measuring spoons and cups. The 1 teaspoon gets used for cookies, and I will take it off the ring to wash it, and wouldn't you know it! It doesn't get put back on the ring, and I cannot find it! ARGH!!
Unbeknownst to me, my salvation was on the horizon. Almost a year ago, I decided to sign up as a consultant for the Pampered Chef. In my kit they sent me was a set of Adjustable Measuring Spoons. I figured why not? Let's put them too the test, and try them out! Maybe it would help me out with my problem.
Obvious features, and then some more!
(The features list is information Pampered Chef from materials they provided to me in hard copy, not online. All commentary is my own.)
Set of 2 spoons: How could you go with only a teaspoon measure, and not a tablespoon? It is just one price to buy both. So now I have 2 spoons taking up the place of a whole ring (or in my case 3 rings). Plus I never have to search and find that the one I need was put in the wrong drawer, or is still in the bottom of the sink.
Sleek Styling/thumb guides: Sleek? Well, I guess so. The thumb guides are neat for sure. You just place your thumb on the ridges, and slide the piece back or forth, clicking to the line that gives you the right measurement for your recipe. Easy!
Pronounced detents: Ok, I admit it. I have no clue what detents meant until I started writing this, and then went to www.dictionary.com to look it up! In layman's terms, the sliding mechanism clicks into place at each measuring amount as it is listed on the handle of the spoon. That way you can dip it into your salt, sugar, etc, and not have to hold it so you keep the correct measurement.
Teaspoon (5 mL): One of the spoons, obviously, is a teaspoon measure. It can measure as little as an 1/8th (.6 mL) up to 1 full teaspoon. It can also measure 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of a teaspoon. The shape is very slender, which allows you to dip it into spice containers easily. I've found it a bit hard to pour into due to the length of the opening and narrow width, but you can adjust! Ha! (Sorry for the bad joke - I could not resist!!)
Tablespoon (15 mL): The second spoon of the set can measure from 1 teaspoon up to 1 full tablespoon. This one also has measurements for 1 1/2 teaspoons, 2 teaspoons, and 2 1/2 teaspoons - not ones you usually find one a ring. Now you can measure once, and if you have frequent interruptions like I do, not forget to get the second teaspoon measured and in your recipe!
All-purpose Use: Yep, you can measure both liquid and dry ingredients. It is recommended that when you measure liquid ingredients, that you keep your finger on the thumb depression, and press down gently. It will seal the slide area so you haven an accurate measurement. Personally, I haven't felt the need to do it, but it probably is a good idea to do.
Standard and Metric Measurements: Yes, if you are using metric, you can use these spoons! Of course, since most everyone I know uses the standard measurements, referred to as Imperial I have come to learn, this is not a big deal. But for the few of you out there that need it, I am glad that it is available to you.
Dishwasher Safe: This product is made completely of plastic, and I throw mine in the dishwasher all the time. I usually put the spoons into the silverware holder. An important thing to know and remember is that the sliding part can be snapped off. You want to do this, since you do not want anything that gets trapped behind the slide area to grow. I snap mine off, and place them in the wire basket on the top shelf of my dishwasher that is mainly for small lids and valves from sippy cups. Just dry them off, snap back together, and you are good to go!
Exclusive!: This means that you can only buy this product from the Pampered Chef, as it was designed and produced only for them, in the USA. This is such a helpful product, I hope that it was more readily available to everyone, but for only $6.50, it is very reasonable in price already.
Use and Care: As with all Pampered Chef products, this one comes with a manila card giving you instructions on use and care. On the back, you will also find a recipe to try out with it!
Any more notes about it I should know?
Yes, there is one more thing! I have been told not to measure essential oils with it. It will cause deterioration of the plastic that the spoons are made out of. So, if you are measuring things like that, I recommend you go with your old set of plastic or metal ringed spoons, since you will not want to keep them in your drawers anymore anyway!
So, does it past my test?
After using these spoons for 10 months, through the Thanksgiving Dinner preparation, Christmas, Easter, Birthdays, etc, they have held up well. No wear, no tear, no glimmer of anything but being new! I like them. They have saved me room, and inspired me to bake a little more often. I always have what I need at my finger tips, or should I say, thumbs! Sure, it is not something that needs pulled out every day, or even every week in my home. But I feel better knowing I can always reach for the right tool and have it work for me. And my husband is glad too, now that he can open at least one of my drawers a little easier without having to yank and remove items to be able to find what he is looking for!
