I am ending my Epinions.com hiatus by making my first Epinion in over 3 yrs.
What better than writing a batch of reviews on my new found joy; Pampered Chef
products. This is review #1 of 5.
I have to admit, I belong to the Pampered Chef 12 Step Program, as in "My
name is Stacy and I am a Pampered Chef Addict." It all started with one
stop at a Kitchen Show to appease a friend. I planned on ordering just one item, but upon
opening the catalog, I heard angels sing as I viewed kitchen gadgets that I
never knew existed, yet suddenly realized I couldn't live without.
This review is on the Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter, item #1301 in the
Pampered Chef catalog.
From the Catalog:
"Professional size stainless steel cutting wheel is beveled on both sides
of blade to slice through pizza, brownies, lasagna and more in one pass.
Includes Protective storage cover."
That caught my attention, I had never thought of using my pizza cutter for
anything other than pizza. All of a sudden I started thinking of other
uses, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, pancakes for my toddler (so much
easier than ripping them apart or trying to slice with a knife), quesadillas...
yum. Plus, I had to admit, the thought of being able to slice through a
pizza without having to use my cutter to roller blade through it 4 or 5 times
just to make one slice seemed appealing as well.
Sight and Feel:
The Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter is overall 10 inches in length. It's
sleek black handle is feels comfortable in the hand, yet seems sturdy enough to
withstand a lot of use. This feels much heavier than my discount store
Pizza Wheel. However, although heavier, it is a good weight, adding to the
comfort level. The handle itself is just under 5 inches in length and has
thumb and finger guards to help make sure that your food is the only thing
sliced. The wheel is much larger than most at 4 inches in diameter making it
ideal to slice thick and thin. It comes with a wheel cover so there is no
worry of little (or big) hands getting accidentally sliced.
What Can It Do?
After reading about all the foods that Pampered Chef claims that this can
cut, after a quick wash in the dishwasher, I decided to try it out for myself.
In the morning, I made an omelet and pancakes. Normally a breakfast like
that entails ripping apart the pancake into small enough slices for my toddler
and using a knife and fork to slice the egg. I tried out the Pizza Cutter
and without a problem, it glided right through both egg and pancake. For
lunch, I made a P, B & J for my toddler and a turkey and cheese for my oldest
and chose to make finger sandwiches. Once again, no problem, the
Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter sliced easily through the turkey and cheese
sandwich and also through the P, B & J. By this time, I was feeling pretty
pleased with my purchase and was trying to think of other ways to use my new
kitchen tool. Since then, I have used it on eggs (omelets & fried),
pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, quesadillas, lasagna, spaghetti noodles, and so
many other things. I have even used it to slice herbs on occasion.
Of course, it works great on pizza, but I have found that I use it more on
everything else.
Why Is This Better Than the Other Pizza Cutters?
When comparing the Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter with my cheap pizza wheel, I
noticed quite a few differences. First the feel. The Pampered
Chef Pizza Cutter is much heavier and sturdy feeling. The weight helps
make it feel more secure in my hand and the design allows me to feel comfortable
while slicing. The blade is much sharper on the Pampered Chef
version, and along with being sharper, it is also beveled on both sides allowing
a quick slice with one roll vs. the 4 or 5 (or more) rolls with my other cutter.
Since this blade is so sharp, the finger and thumb guards are a big plus,
especially since I have been known to be a bit clumsy and cut myself. The
wheel is also much larger than most and because of that, I have been able to
slice foods such as lasagna without a problem. The Pampered Chef Pizza
Cutter comes with a protective cover that covers its sharp blade to protect from
kitchen accidents and to help keep your blade stay sharp for a long time.
There is also 3 year guarantee, so if it breaks you can contacted Pampered Chef
and get it replaced for free!
Care and Handling:
The Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter is made of stainless steel and is dishwasher
safe. The protective cover is also top-rack dishwasher safe if you
accidentally get it messy. The best way to keep your cutter from getting
dull it to do your slicing on a plastic cutting board and to make sure the
protective cover is on during storage.
Any Negatives About the Product?
