Pros:Big cutting wheel can tackle lots of toppings, dishwasher safe, plastic sheath
Cons:Doesn't get into corners of deep dishes well.
The Bottom Line: An excellent cutter with a large wheel. About as manly a pizza cutter as you can ask for.
If you though all pizza cutters were the same, you haven't tried the Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter. This is a man's pizza cutter and size is everything.
•• What it is ••
The Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter is a pizza cutter as the name clearly indicates. It uses the traditional cutting wheel and the user simply rolls it along the pizza to cut it. Pretty simple stuff.
•• Features and Commentary ••
The Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter has a black plastic handle which feels sturdy in the hand. While it isn't soft and ergonomic like the OXO brand, it is not uncomfortable. It can get a little slippery if it gets grease on it, but this is true of any kitchen item. At the top of the handle, is an over-sized knuckle protector. This is used to protect your hand in case it slips down the handle. Not having it there would cause your hand to hit the wheel and the red on your pizza would not be caused only by the marinara sauce...
This brings us the the cutting wheel. It is extra large and looks impressive. It has a diameter of roughly 4" making it the largest cutter in my arsenal. Why is bigger better in this case? Because a bigger wheel rolls over things better. Think of a monster truck. It's huge wheels allow it to gracefully roll over larger objects. How does this relate to pizza? Because if you pile the stuff high on your pie (Hey, I made a rhyme!), the smaller cutters will often push the toppings as the cut. The Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter does not suffer from this, as it gracefully rolls over the top of even the tallest pizza. However, the size of the wheel, while being it's greatest asset is also it's greatest weakness. If you are a lover of deep dish pizza, the large wheel makes it impossible to get in the corners and will not cut as close the edge as the smaller ones will. So if you like deep dish, then you'll need an extra knife to finish the corners. Not a huge deal, but worth noting.
The blade is extremely sharp and after over year of use, it hasn't shown any signs of dulling. I've never met a crust that couldn't be cut by the cutter. It performs admirably. While we haven't needed to, the pizza wheel can be sharpened like any other knife.
The Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter is dishwasher safe. We've run it through the dishwasher dozens of times and it shows no signs of rust or wear. The wheel still spins smoothly and the blade is as sharp as ever.
The final cool thing about the cutter is the included sleeve. We keep our pizza cutter in the knife drawer, but since there's no knife block for it, we run the risk of cutting ourselves on it. So the Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter has a plastic sheath included. It is soft plastic and the cutter is completely enclosed. This is a nice feature that never really thought we needed until we had it.
