Some Kitchen Tools are Worth the Extra - Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter
Written: Jan 4, 2008
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:sharpe, easy to use, easy to clean, protective cover
Cons:method of purchase
The Bottom Line: Cutting up has never been more easy.
Several years ago, I had my sister-in-law and her kids over for dinner - pizza. We had an old-school el-cheapo pizza cutter at the time, since we rarely had home-made pizza. Being a previous Pampered Chef distributor, she was so disgusted with it, that a Pampered Chef Pizza Cutter found it's way into my Christmas presents that year.
Rolling and Cutting
The first thing I noticed upon taking hold of this fabulous cutter was that it was much larger and heftier than our previous one. The straight handle is a good size around to help create a strong grip and is topped with a significant hand guard to protect fingers and hands. The oversized 4" cutting wheel is stainless steel and very sharp. A plastic protection sheath is included to help protect you and it. I never know quite what to do with this when the cutter is in use, so sometimes it just gets shoved around the kitchen until the cutter is clean again.
Time for Some Slicing
I have gotten way more use out of this cutter in the past few years than I ever thought I would. For a while it just sat in our drawer and I would always make my husband do the cutting when it was needed. Not that I didnt like the cutter, I just didnt realize its potential. The main thing we end up using our pizza cutter for is, of course, pizza. We happen to always keep a supply of Totino's Frozen Pizza's, just in case we need something quick. That's about as creative as we get here. When it's time for some slicing, it usually take one, maybe two passes through the pizza in order to get great results. Now with a toddler in the house his slices need to be a little smaller. This is usually more difficult with a knife or fork since the pizza is still warm and the ingredients want to slide all over. A couple of swipes with this handy cutter and bite size pieces are served up quickly. I also end up using this cutter when making quesadillas or homemade tortilla chips. It works wonders for slicing through the tortillas - and pretty much anythng that is flat.
Dried on Pizza Goo
Clean up of this cutter is extremely simple and easy. The cutter is dishwasher safe so I just place mine in my dishwasher (which isn't the strongest) and it comes out sparkly every time. No major scrubbing or fear of nicked fingers. Even if we have let the pizza goo dry on (I do try to take off the large chunks though).
Lasts and Lasts
We have had this Pizza Cutter for at least three years if not longer and it still looks like the day we took it out of the package. The cutter does have a three year warranty in case there is an issue with it, but we never had to look into it since it worked so well. The cutter that PC is now selling, appears to have a more rounded handle to it and is retailing for just under $10.00. Obtaining one of these delightful cutters must be done through a PC distributor. It works wonderfully and I would definitely suggest finding a consultant to pick one up from. Some kitchen products are worth the extra cost
