| jeavinl's Full Review: Pampers Baby Dry Diapers, 120 Diapers |
Before we even brought my daughter home from the hospital, she was wearing Pampers Baby Dry diapers. This wasnt because I selected them (Id actually decided on using Pampers Swaddlers based on reviews Id read and had a package sitting at home). But they were the diaper of choice at the hospital where I gave birth. Since then, Ive gone from liking them to hating them to liking them again. Weve used them on and off throughout my daughters first 18 months. Weve used them in sizes 1, 3, and 4.
THE BASICS
Pampers Baby-Dry are disposable diapers that look a little different than most of the brands Ive tried. They do not have a stretchy waistband. Instead, the tabs simply wrap around the babys waist and stick to the fronts. The tabs also seem a bit different since they rely on stickiness rather than Velcro. Also, the diapers have a light baby powder scent to them and are not contoured (wider waist than legs). They appear simply rectangular in shape. Each diaper sports a friendly Sesame Street character (Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Zoey, and Grover) on the front (head shot only), a small Elmo on the back, and lots of blue sky decorations (suns, clouds, kites). The size number appears in a tiny circle in the front.
Right now, we buy size 4 in the economy-size, 126-diaper-containing box. I only buy it when its on sale for $25. Sometimes I also use a $1 or $2 off coupon in conjunction with the sale. This brings the price per diaper below 20 cents, 19 and 18 cents respectively. But Baby-Dry is Pampers lower-end alternative diaper (unless you count their subdivision, Luvs) and is competitively priced and widely available. I buy the large box at my local grocery store.

COMFORT AND FIT
In the very beginning, when we brought my daughter home from the hospital, I couldnt understand why these were the diapers of choice. The front didnt fold down easily, or stay down for that matter, to air out her umbilical stump. Also, the back panel was hardly absorbent for the very runny deposits that she left back then. The lack of a stretchy waistband meant that the poop just ran out the back and we have plenty of onesies with stains to prove it. These last two complaints are what steered me away from these diapers all through size 2 and while using size 3. But I decided to give them another chance now that my daughters poop is more solid.
Surprisingly, given their lack of shape and elastic waistband, these diapers fit my daughter very well. The elastic around the leg openings is stretchier than in other diapers weve used and holds the diaper in place. Other ones weve used shift and bunch up a lot easier. When theyre wet, even supersaturated from overnight use, the absorbent material doesnt break apart into clumps like other diapers weve used.
Like other diapers, the sizes are off by a bit. We had to move on from the size 3's, which supposedly fit up to 28 lbs. at around 20 lbs. But while Ive had to move on to size 5 diapers in other brands, my daughter is still able to fit into the size 4 Baby-Drys. This actually makes these diapers more affordable than the Kirkland Signature diapers I was using.
ABSORBENCY
Like I said above, the smaller sizes didnt absorb any of the poopy messes but they did work well on urine. But now that my daughters older, the size 4 diapers work very well all around. They lock away moisture better than many of the other diapers Ive used and weve never had any leaks with this size. They seem to wick away the wetness moments after it lands on the padding. Theyre great at night.
DURABILITY
I havent had any instances where these diapers (any size of them) fell or broke apart. Ive never seen any gel particles with them either. The tabs have never broken off and are able to stick and restick to the front cover without losing any of their grip.
OVERALL
Size 4 Baby-Dry diapers are a great bargain and a good product. Theyre absorbent, they fit well, they smell powdery fresh, and theyve got Elmo on them.
