Selecting a diaper presents the consumer with dozens of choices and one thing I have learned is that all diapers are not created equally. Some are prone to leakage; some do not stay fastened very well; and some are more costly while offering nothing special in exchange for the extra dollars. One diaper that is very middle- of- the- road is Pampers Baby Dry, a diaper product from Proctor and Gamble.
Basic Facts About This Product:
These diapers are constructed with a thinner amount of padding than other diapers and an elastic band that goes around the legs to keep waste from leaking. The front and back of the diaper depicts cartoon characters from Sesame Street, with the faces of Ernie, Elmo, Big Bird, and a few others adorning the two sides. These pictures vary based on the diaper size and they help make the diapers cute. Along with these cartoon characters, there are also some small drawings of clouds, flowers, butterflies, and other outdoor- related objects.
Pampers Baby Dry are fastened shut by the use of a tab on each side. These tabs do their job through the use of a sticky surface and Velcro. The Velcro attaches itself on the front of the diaper and the sticky surface helps to provide additional security.
The inside of these diapers has a second ridge along the edges to help prevent leakage. And to help cover the bad smell of a dirty diaper, Pampers Baby Dry are scented and they have a baby powder smell.

Final Thoughts:
Pampers Baby Dry is one of several diapers I have used on my little girl over the past seven months and it is also one of the few diapers on which I have a difficult time forming a definite opinion. This diaper isnt a bad diaper by any means and I can think of several that offer lower levels of quality. But it is also not one of the best diapers with a few flaws that make me hesitant to rate it very high.
First, lets talk about performance. These diapers do a decent job protecting your baby from leaks, thanks to the double ridge on the inside edges. This is similar to Huggies Supreme and a few other diapers I have tried. It may not look like much, but it does make a difference. It keeps the wetness inside the diaper until its time for a change. The elastic on the legs is good, too, because it also aids in leakage control; keeping the diaper snugly against your babys legs without being so tight as to be uncomfortable.
One other positive aspect of these diapers is the tabs. Most modern- day diapers seal themselves using a Velcro tab. These diapers also use Velcro, but this is combined with a sticky section on part of the tab. With this two- fisted approach, the tabs stay more secure. They are less likely to pop open than other diapers.
Now, lets talk about the bad points. The main thing about this diaper that I dont like is the way it reacts to any small amount of moisture, creating a sagging effect that makes you think the diaper is full and needs to be changed when it actually doesnt. There is something in the materials on the inside of these diapers that causes this problem. Just a small amount of moisture makes the diapers expand and droop in the front. Doing the squish test, like many parents do when checking for wetness, often results in a false conclusion that the diaper is about to overflow. This isnt really the case at all and I didnt really notice this until I had changed a couple of these diapers. The diaper was sagging and seemed full, but it actually wasnt. Apparently, it takes only a small amount of moisture to cause this reaction in the diaper. Also, I dont like the way the outside of these diapers feels. It is too paper- like and it reminds me of the feel you get from some of the very cheapest disposable diapers.
These diapers have a scent- like baby powder- and most people will find this a positive attribute. But there are likely many who will think the scent is overdone and will consider it a strike against this product. I think the scent is fine, but I can see how some would think it is too strong.
One other thing that might make some people think twice about these diapers is the price. These diapers are sold in six sizes: Size 1 is for babies between eight and fourteen pounds; Size 2 is for babies between twelve and eighteen pounds; Size 3 is for babies between sixteen and twenty- eight pounds; Size 4 is for babies between twenty- two and thirty- seven pounds; Size 5 is for babies over twenty- seven pounds; and Size 6 is for babies over 35 pounds. The standard packages have fewer diapers as you increase in size. Size 1 contains fifty- six diapers; Size 2 contains forty- eight diapers; Size 3 contains forty diapers; Size 4 contains thirty- four diapers; Size 5 contains thirty diapers; and Size 6 contains twenty- six diapers. The standard price for each of these packages is around $12. So, even at the most economical (Size 1), you are still paying over twenty- one cents per diaper. This cost per unit gradually increases as you go up in size. My girl presently uses Size 3, so her diapers cost about thirty cents each (I usually have a coupon discount, so I save a little bit of money). This is more expensive than many other competitors. You are paying a premium to get the Pampers name.
So what is my final opinion of these diapers? Well, I think Pampers Baby Dry are good for overall dryness and for their cute artwork, but they are lacking in other areas; most notably the fact that they appear to be wet even when your baby hasnt really wetted himself/herself or hasnt wetted very much. Thus, with an almost equal number of pros and cons, Im going to give this diaper a middle, three- star rating and give it a small recommendation. These arent the best diapers, and Pampers itself makes other styles that are better. But these diapers will do when you need them and they are widely available at many stores. They are overpriced for what you get, but most consumers will find them at least marginally bearable.
