Pros: ● Wetness liner ● Spiderman, Hulk, and Dora designs
Cons: ● Expensive ● Not for bedtime wear ● Not enough sizes
The Bottom Line: The Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers are appealing to young ones, but if you’re child doesn’t care about being wet then, these trainers will not facilitate training.

| marybatson's Full Review: Pampers Feel 'N Learn Advanced Trainers |
Why is it that potty training goes smoothly for some, while others struggle so much? Is it the method? Is it the parenting style? Is it the parent, or the child? Im inclined to think its a bit of all the above, but I certainly dont claim to be an expert. Potty training my 3˝-year old son has been exhausting. We started a year ago, and were nearly there, thank goodness. Since youre reading this review, youre probably wondering if the Pampers Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers helped, or hindered the process.
First, let me describe the product
The Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers are intended to be the last step in the potty training process before real underwear. Pampers have a 3-step process that they call Toddler Transitions.
● 1st Step - First Steps starts kids with their first pull-up.
● 2nd Step - Easy Ups are pull-ups that introduce the wetness indicators.
● 3rd Step - Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers are pull-ups with wetness indicators, and a wetness liner.
Like other pull-ups, the Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers have stretchy sides, waist, and legs that hold tight to the body to stay on. They also have tear-away sides, unlike diapers that have tabs. This training pant features wetness indicators, which are intended to encourage little ones to stay dry. What makes these pull-ups unique is the wetness liner. The wetness liner is built into the training pant, and fits close to the skin. For a short while, the liner lets children feel they are wet, unlike regular trainers that immediately pull wetness away from the skin. The wetness liner allow kids to feel they are wet, which is supposed to help them learn when to use the toilet.
The Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers are only available in one size: 3T-5T = 26 to 40 pounds (12-18 kg). Ive seen them packaged in both Jumbo Pack with 26 pants, and Mega Pack with 40 pants. They feature two designs: Dora the Explorer, and Spiderman and Friends. The Dora designs are pink, which I suspect are girlish. I bought the Spiderman designs, which are considered more boyish. The Hulk is featured in the Spiderman and Friends, which William liked best. These trainers use little spiders for the wetness indicators.
Our Experience:
Maybe my expectations were too high for these pants, but they seem like a glorified diaper that pulls up. Of course, it could be that my child is unusually stubborn. The Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers do allow children to feel the wetness. Well, for a short while anyway, but once absorbed my son went about his normal business of play. I believe that ALL pull-ups are just like wearing diapers, except for the freedom of choice - to pull up, or pull down, so why use the potty. What's more, I found these trainers did not work for overnight wear. I tried it several times, and found a very soggy bed in the morning. The tear-away sides are less convenient too. The Huggies Pull-Ups have easy-open sides that are much more convenient than the tear-away sides. On several occasions, William has stepped into the pants wrong causing them to rip. At .36 cents, a pair Im not about to throw an unsoiled pull-up away. Thus, Ive had to safety pin the sides together. This doesnt happen with the Huggies Pull-Ups because they re-seal.
I bought the Jumbo Pack of 26 pants for $9.44. Thats .36 cents per pant. I generally buy the Pampers Easy Ups, or Huggies Pull-Ups for .27 cents a pair. Thats a difference of .9 cents per pant. The .9 cents isnt a huge issue to me, although it does add up over time. I think the important question is, did the sensation liner help with the transition to the potty, or not. In my opinion, it did not. William liked the Spiderman and the Hulk designs, but the wetness indicators were inconsequential. When hes wet, he knows it, and he could care less if it's spiders, numbers, or planets that fade.
Do I recommend the Feel 'n Learn Advanced Trainers, or not? There are two situations where I think these may come in handy. The first is for nighttime training. My neighbor is 5˝, and hes been potty trained for 3-years, but still wets the bed at night. If Pampers made these trainers in larger sizes, they might be appropriate for this kind of training. Second, if you have a child thats training quickly, and doesnt like the feeling of being wet, then these trainers may work for you as well. Otherwise, save your money and skip these pants.
