When I was pregnant, I was nervous and excited and happy. I was certain that I was about to embark on the biggest adventure of my life. I had a glow, certainly, but lurking underneath my brightness was a squeamish disconcerted green -- I was absolutely terrified at the thought of changing a diaper.
As an only child and very rare babysitter; the only diaper I'd ever changed was on a doll in my lamaze class. When the real little person came, with all of her real little waste products, I was paralysed with fear and often had to beg for my husband's help.
Now that little girl is 2 1/2, and I change diapers with the ease of an
old pro. I've had my share of errors -- including the time I inadvertently
put one on backwards -- but I'm confident in my diapering skills, and
don't even mind or notice the stink anymore.
I love Pamper's Premium Diapers
Simply put, they are the best. I have tried other brands, choosing at
times to use a competitor's coupon or go with the cheapies, but they
have always been negative experiences. I've watched normal loads squirt out the sides, cleaned up the mess in pants and crib sheets, and groaned over the chafing on my daughter's legs.
When I use Pamper's Premium Diapers, I know these things:
1) They are unbelievably soft
We used Pamper's Rash Guard (and Baby Care) for a long time. One hot summer afternoon, however, we went into our daughter's room to discover that she had ripped into the plastic in the front of the diaper and pulled out of all the (eww factor ahead) urine soaked gel. It was everywhere (in her hair, in her sheets, on her fingers), and it was very -very- gross. We decided to buy clothlike diapers from then on -- no more plastic that could be ripped or torn open by curious fingers.
These diapers truly -are- like cloth. There is absolutely no way our
little girl can rip into them. They have rounded edges, and even the
elastic on the legs is soft and non-binding.
2) They are very well made
The tabs on the sides are easy to open with one hand, and they stick
firmly and well to the top of the diaper. We -have- had a few diapers
which were made incorrectly (either the tape came off altogether or
didn't stick) but that has been a very rare occurrence.
I don't worry that these diapers are going to come apart or "pop" at the waist. My daughter has taken them off and stepped out of them like underwear -- they held together even as she pulled and tugged to take them off.
At the same time, the fasteners are readjustable. If you put them on and they're too tight, just gently pull up, restick, and they are as good as new.
3) They have the size printed on them
I love this. We keep 2 diaper bags around : one to keep in the car at
all times, and one to carry with us. We frequently restock these bags
with the next size clothes, a fresh tupperware container of cheerios,
and a new handful of diapers. Having the size on the side of the diaper makes keeping or eliminating really easy.
4) The designs are tasteful, but not overly trendy
Some diapers are full of sesame street characters, Barney, or the latest Pokemon craze. These are cute and fun, but when happens when your child's fancy moves on to something else? Pampers Premium Diapers have elegant little pastel designs of penguins or lions or sheep on them, and I love to point them out to my daughter as animals rather than as television shows.
(I know this is a weird point. At the same time, I think there is some
validity to having something in our children's lives that isn't based on
marketing and advertisements. Diapers are simply diapers -- and I
appreciate that Pamper's Premium has chosen to stay out of the
advertising hype.)
5) These diapers are very thin, but very absorbent
They fit really well around my little girl and they protect without
being bulky. I was nervous about not having her potty-trained by a certain age due to the restrictions and fit of toddler clothes. These diapers fit well under her clothes, and though they're not as thin as normal underwear, they're pretty close. At the same time, they're very
absorbent and hold a -lot- of liquid. At times I have been shocked at the weight of the diaper after I remove it.
6) They are expensive, and well worth it
Yes, these diapers are expensive. They make up a large percentage of our shopping bill every month. At the same time, it's a price I willingly pay. They are -absolutely worth it-. It's a price we are willing to be to give our girl the very best.
There are a lot of aspects to raising a child
From the first solid food to the first kiss, the first solid sleeping
through the night to the first slumber party -- our lives are forever
changed and challenged by our children. I am glad that Pamper's Premium took the worry out of my fear of diapers and have consistently been a reliable, excellent product that I'm pleased to spend a little extra money on.
