The Past
When my first son was born, we went through every imaginable type and brand of diaper. We were given tons of them as baby shower gifts, samples from the hospital, and samples from various companies through the mail. Best of all, being that we had the fourth baby in about a three month period at my husband's work we were given everyones left over newborn and size one diapers. We didn't have to start buying any until he was over a month old and happened to be out of town. Money was tight so I thought I'd give the White Cloud diapers a shot since they claimed to have great absorbency, a cloth like feel, and velcro tabs; which anyone trying to diaper a newborn infant that is kicking and screaming KNOWS is a most have. Since then, over seventeen months ago, I swore I would never buy another brand of diapers. After all, why pay more than you have to for something that is just going to be thrown away in a relatively short time?
The Present
Enter baby number two, who is now 8 weeks old. As a Welcome to Our World gift he were given a package of the Pampers Size 2 Swaddlers and I absolutely feel in love with them!! Granted, was still rather small and the size 2 diapers where a little large on him but they worked great. They seemed to contain leaks better than my preferred brand, had a softer feel to them and I loved the little Sesame Street charters that were on the front. But I wasn't sold just yet.
After all, any numerous things could have contributed to the pro's at the time. His White Cloud diapers where still the newborn size, the Swaddlers where a size 2. He tended to wear the Swaddlers during the day when he was changed more often while the White Cloud ones where worn at night. This was not intentional, but I had one package upstairs and other down.
Well I thought I would switch it up a bit just to find out.
They held up just as well at night then they did during the day. His skin stayed dryer; which definitely helped prevent rashes. His diaper wasn't leaking all over his bedding and he wasn't waking up as often to be changed in the middle of the night. The only thing I didn't really care for was the fact that when I would pick him up in the middle of the night after four or five hours had passed and I could feel the squishiness of the diaper. But then again this is a common occurrence with just about any diaper - especially when they are that small.
Again I thought, "self, I am starting to be swayed, what could be the explanation?" and then it occurred to me that maybe because the Swaddlers were 2 sizes larger than the White Cloud diapers could be the reason. To be honest though, I thought that would be exactly why there would be more leaks.
Well, again I was out of town and couldn't get to the local Wal-mart. It was late, the night before Easter and I didn't have enough diapers to last the next 36 hours. I had just gotten off an airplane and after flying by myself with an 18 month old and an 8 week old I honestly just didn't feel like sitting in a car for 20 minutes to buy some diapers.
So off to the corner Walgreen's I went and immediately gravitated towards the one brand that I knew I could trust besides my trusty old White Cloud diapers. This time we went with the correct size, which happened to be the size 1's and I figured that maybe now I would change my mind and realize that the White Cloud diapers really were the better of the two. After all, I hate having to eat my own words.
I am a mature adult and I can admit being wrong, even if I don't like too.
The Pros
Now that I've tried both the White Cloud Diapers and the Pampers Swaddlers I am sold on the fact the Swaddlers are the better of the two diapers. They contain leaks better, they keep my baby dry, and are softer than the other brand. The Velcro tabs are great, especially since trying to diaper the new baby with the help of the older one generally requires me redoing the tabs after he gets up. The Grow with me tabs that the Swaddlers boost are a great perk too. Being as how I've noticed with my other cloth like diapers that the tabs would only stick to the diaper and not to each other which is a pain if you are in between two sizes. With the Swaddlers you can overlap the tabs which is probably why my son was able to wear a diaper two sizes larger for him without leaks (with my first, when the diaper was too large it just about always leaked). Overall I just think these diapers are the greatest!! While a common complain is that they dont contain the messes up the backside as well as some other diapers, I have yet to have an issue with this at all.
The Cons
I'm not going to lie though. The $10.99 I paid for 50 diapers is a big issue with me, especially when I can pay just slightly over $15 for twice that. I can't see spending that much money on a regular basis just for my son to go to the bathroom in a fancy diaper. But I have come to somewhat of a compromise with myself and am rather proud of it - even if my mother thinks I'm nuts: When I'm at home with no plans to go anywhere and nothing to do, I'm going to stick with my old, trusty White Cloud Brand diapers. But when I'm traveling, out and about, or putting the baby down for the night I'll use my fancy diapers and be comfortable with the fact that I know I will not have to deal with leaks, messes, and the head aches that come with having to change the baby, the bedding or my clothing because he went through his diaper at the most inopportune time!!
This is the only reason this product rates a four instead of a five!
A Little Bit of Randomness
According to the package
Pampers Swaddlers contain these mild ingredients which are gentle to the skin: petrolatum, stearyl alcohol, aloe extract.
It also states that if a gel like substance is noticed on your childs skin that is not harmful in the slightest and can be removed by wiping the skin with a cloth. This gel comes from the diaper padding.

And my personal favorite:
The money that Sesame Workshop receives when you buy a Sesame Street product is put right back into Sesame Street and other Sesame Workshop educational projects. After all, I grew up watching the show and I know my 18 month old loves it too!
While the price is far from desirable, Pamper Swaddlers work great when you're on the go and need superior leak protection!
