| ravenmidnight's Full Review: Pampers Swaddlers |
Long story short, after an occasionally panic-stricken pregnancy I found myself with a c-section incision to heal and a lively new baby boy to raise.
One of the first things I had to test out and decide on was exactly which brand of diapers to use. After some experimenting and lots of diaper changing I have come to a decision. Out of the five different kinds I tried (Luvs, Huggies, Pampers Baby Dry, White Cloud, and Pampers Swaddlers)Pampers Swaddlers works best. Why? One of the biggest reasons is it's lack of leakage (I had noted this as being a problem with other reviewers, most especially with poop, not so for me) one complaint I hold especially for any variety of Huggies diapers (this despite being a fan of their bath products). All the other companies I tried seemed to let at least a little urine leak out of the diaper and onto his clothes, sometimes even drenching my own. Icky.
Another reason for my admiration stems from the softer cloth-like texture of the diaper itself, which actually seems to result in less irritation to the baby's skin. The more abrasive cotton of most other diapers seems to irritate and even scratch at the skin, necessitating diaper rash ointment and equalling a very cranky baby. Exactly why Swaddlers are so soft is beyond me, but I appreciate it and so does baby. How do I know this? If for some reason I find myself having to use any other diaper, the little guy is irritable and gives me mean looks. No, I'm not kidding.
I believe that another of the reasons it works so well for infants (the diaper goes from newborn up to a level 2, the largest weight being 18 lbs.) is its better fit. This comes from being much closer to a baby's actual size and its stretch tabs that pull tight and can overlap each other. Its also a thinner diaper, a lot of other companies seem to think that bulky means dry, what it does mean is leakage as does huggies supposed leakguard. If the diaper does not fit the baby properly it's just not going to keep him dry.
Add the negative reactions I had to the other diapers to the stress of being a first time mom who has just had a C-section and it becomes a major irritability factor. This is not the way you want to be around your little one. I was lucky, my son is an angel who rarely fusses and I had the help of both grandmas, my fiance and my 14 year old sister. I'm glad to have found this diaper, it makes things a lot easier and as my son approaches that 18 pound limit (he's 13.5 now) I dread having to find another type to use.
