| LisaDo's Full Review: Pampers Swaddlers |
After the trouble we went thru with Zack and diapers when he was a baby, we knew right off that we were going to start Jesse with Pampers. We had used Huggies Ultratrims and Huggies Overnights with mixed success. We'd often end up having "blizzards", where they white fluffy insides come out all over the place. We had mixed luck with Luvs, as we had a problem with leaks, especially at night. We had also tried White Cloud without success. While Fuzzi Bunz Diapers with BabyKicks Hemparoo Joey-Bunz liners worked well, they can get expensive to start, and we didn't have the money to go that route. Zack has been using Pampers Cruisers for several years now and we seldom have accidents, so it wasn't hard to decide to use Pampers for Jesse, as well.
Pampers Swaddlers are available in four sizes. Not all stores carry all sizes, and I have seen them in different size packages. The sizes are:
~ "N" - Up to 10 lbs
~ "1" - 8-14 lbs
~ "1-2" - Up to 15 lbs.
~ "2" - 12-18 lbs
We pick up our diapers from Sam's Club. This last time we picked up diapers for Jesse, we picked up a case of size "1-2". There were 216 diapers in the box for around $35. Jesse is a chunker, and is 3 months old, but can still wear the size "1-2" with a little room to move. We'll probably be moving up to the size "2"s soon.
The Pampers Swaddlers that we're using have baby Sesame Street characters on them. Some are playing and some are sleeping. Zack is fascinated by the pictures on them and loves to help me change his little brother. He'll study the diaper until I need it, and then he'll hand it over. He'll watch while I put the diaper on, characters go in the front. They are held closed with Velcro tapes. He'll then throw the old diaper away for me.
Pampers Swaddlers are soft on Jesse's skin. They have a cloth like feel. The elastic is also soft around his chubby legs. They have been tight enough that we don't get leaks, but not so tight that they hurt, restrict movement or leave marks. There is a slight smell to the Swaddlers, as well, but it isn't offensive. It's kind of a baby powder scent, which doesn't irritate Jesse's skin or my nose.
By the time that Zack was Jesse's age, we had went thru several different types of diapers. We've only used Swaddlers for Jesse and we have no plans to change. We've only had two accidents in the 3 months that we've been using them, but I think that was more the fault of how he was sitting, not in the diaper, itself. Both times he had had a bowel movement (which tends to be runny in infants) and he was sitting in his Fisher-Price Baby Papasan Infant Seat. He had shifted to one side in the seat, causing a small gap in the diaper. I'm actually surprised that we've had no other accidents or leaks.
We're very happy with the Pampers Swaddlers and not only do I use them for our son, I also purchase a package for friends as part of their baby gift when I go to baby showers. That way they can see, first hand, how well that they work.
