Pros: Soft, clothlike feel. Easy to open and wide re-sealable tabs.
Cons: No elastic in the back, strongly scented.
The Bottom Line: A good fit for babies that are narrower in the hips/crotch. A bit expensive, and not recommended for bit eaters.

| zzJulia's Full Review: Pampers Swaddlers Newborn, 10 Lbs, 40 Diapers |
I hadn't changed a diaper in something like 20 years so I was a bit out of touch when I went to Target during my third trimester.
My sister-in-law came with me, but her children are older and they use Huggies brand. My friend with newborn twins had recommended Pampers so we decided to go with Pampers for our first try.
Pampers Swaddlers
These are packaged in yellow packs whereas the Pampers Baby Dry line comes in purple. Despite the tons of money these companies spend on marketing, there is nothing on the packaging to indicate the difference between the two!!
Having no clue, I picked up Swaddlers in Newborn size, which claims to be good up to 10 lbs, and Baby Dry in Size 1, which is for 8-14 lbs. The hospital also gave us a pack of Swaddlers Size 1 as well.
The Fit
The Swaddlers fit very well for the first week after my son was born. He weighed 8.5 lbs, and the hospital actually gave us a pack of Swaddler size 1 to use on him as they felt Newborn was too small. We felt the Swaddler Newborn was perfect for him, fitting him snugly in the waist and folded easily below his umbilical cord area that is still healing.
The back has no gathers, as compared with the Huggies so I can see that when he eats more, the potential for blowouts will be a bigger issue. The leg gathers are stretchy and when they began to leave little red marks, I knew it was time to move up to a Size 1 diaper. He is breastfed so leaking may become more and more of a concern now that he has outgrown the Newborn size.
The difference in fit between the Pampers Swaddlers and the Baby Dry is that the Baby Dry seem wider in the crotch. My son is long, (he was 22 inches at birth) and his hips are tiny. The Swaddlers really have a better fit for him in the waist and crotch than the Baby Dry. At least, that's the only difference that I can see between the two.
Now that I look at the package for Baby Dry, I see that in the photo, the diaper is high-waisted, coming up far above the baby's belly button, practically to the chest. The Swaddlers are more of a "low-rise" diaper, hugging the hips of the baby, and narrower in the crotch.
The Feel and Other Comments
Compared to Huggies, the Pampers is very soft and clothlike and opens easily with one hand. The tabs are nice and wide, and don't tear if you need to re-stick them to make the diaper more snug or just check if it needs to be changed. There is also a fragrance so if you or your baby is very sensitive to scent, this may be a factor to consider.
The diapers have cute little Sesame Street prints. Not that it was a factor in my purchasing, but they were definitely cute.
Cost
The Pampers Swaddlers Newborn were the most expensive diapers at Target (and at Drugstore.com and Amazon). They come 40 to a pack, and I paid $10.99 at Target--so 24 cents each. At Amazon they are $13 for a pack. Given that even the eco-friendlier Seventh Generation diapers can be had for cheaper on Amazon, it may be wise to clip coupons if the Swaddlers are your diapers of choice.
Also, bulk websites like 1800diapers.com and Costco do not carry the Newborn size so you are stuck with Target, Babies 'R Us or the grocery store.
Conclusion
For the week that we used the Swaddlers Newborn, we were very pleased. No blowouts, leaking, and they fit great. Unfortunately, when we moved up a size, we couldn't say the same nice things about the Swaddlers Size 1!
